Business Overview

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because All I ever wanted to do as a child was "build" things. With a mechanical engineer for a father, and pretty much any tool available to me in my youth, I began my educational path towards an Architectural Engineering degree from UTA. Halfway through my education, our first daughter came into this world, and I made the decision to raise my family without the difficulty of affording university. I absolutely love every day building, fabricating and repairing all types of structures and features for your home. .

We started in this industry in 2011.

We describe our business as Family owned and operated

Review by in North Richland Hills, TX
I hired Proper Deck and Fencing to install a fence, fabricate and install a gate, along with the installation of a solar-powered drive gate. Per the invoice that I was given, the fence has a 10-year warranty and the gate and operator have a 5-year warranty. This was all installed mid-August 2016. Since then, I have had trouble with the gate arm and gate because the gate is too heavy for the gate control to support. Jeff came out twice after the initial installation to temporarily fix part of the gate because it had started to sag and was dragging the ground on my driveway. At that point (which was July 2018) he and I discussed that he would pay to replace my gate control arm with a stronger arm than dampened when opening and shutting since the current one was already showing signs of giving out due to the weight of the gate. I told him that I would give him until October to come back to replace the gate arm and at that time I also wanted him to take the gate to get it powder-coated and cut new boards to be placed back on the gate since the current ones were falling off. I was told the last time that Jeff came to look at our gate that if we decided to change or fix the gate or fence at all ourselves that this would void our warranty with him. This is not listed anywhere in the invoice that he gave us, but there are also no stipulations to the warranty listed either. The owner seems to be making up his warranty details as he goes along. I have tried several times via email, phone calls, and text messages to reach the owner of this company without any response.
Response by Proper Deck and Fence: We installed this fence for someone the owner knew personally, providing a top quality 8? tall fence around her corner lot, including a drive gate that has given her issues. The client received an incredible deal on a top notch fence. After the fence boards we installed were removed by the customer to be painted and then re-installed, we were called out to replace some boards that were no longer holding tight to the gate. It was explained to the customer how easy it could be to strip out the screw holes, as the screws were going through a steel strap and into the cedar pickets at only a 1/2? depth on a 5/8? picket. Once our workmanship is compromised by a non-professional, it voids the warranty. The gate operator provided is a Solar powered Apollo/Nice brand 1500 swing actuator, capable of operating a 16? long gate up to 600 lbs. Gate installed is 12? long and weighs less than 400 lbs. So the operator never goes past 75% load. We installed gate on 4?x4? by 1/4? wall post sunk 4? in the ground. It did settle and we came back to put the post upright with an additional support behind the gate post. The gate remains operational, and the request for powder coating remains an aesthetic issue, which we do not warranty. Our warranties cover structural/workmanship, which have been handled providing/maintaining an operational gate. We strive to provide the highest quality products and continue learning to be better outdoor living contractors. Unfortunately, we cannot provide the client with a $3400 upgrade to a functioning install.
