    I have had Quality Ambient over for both HVAC service and repair, and eventually had them do a system replacement based on their diagnoses and recommendations. I like the way that they communicate, offer options, discuss the pros and cons of the options and also the cost and estimated return on investment based on the options chosen. They provided fair and competitive pricing, and based on these past experiences, will highly recommend them to others.

    They were calling for a couple 90+ degree days so I figured I would turn the A/C's on. After about three hours of running the upstairs unit was not cooling the space. According to the thermostat the temperature had not changed at all and was still at about 83 degrees. I am a Marine Engineer and have extensive experience on chilled water units, not the same as a residential cooled air unit, but I am competent and can troubleshoot either one. I had no tools or gauges so I looked over the unit visually and found the condenser/compressor unit running (outside unit). I checked the vents and no air was being pushed out of the vents, they were cool to the touch but no obvious air flow was occurring. I gave this company a call and they came out in the time frame given. I mentioned to the technician that I thought the fan in the air handler was not running. He checked it out and said it was running and determined the unit was just low on refrigerant. He determined this by touching the inlet and outlet tubing to the air handler which is not a an accurate way of determining a units charge, especially with the blower not drawing any air over the evaporator coil. I took the technicians word (although I shouldn't have) and he charged the unit with 3 lbs of R410A (refrigerant) for $195. He had me feel the pipes coming from the condenser unit as I was questioning the need for a charge and I could not feel any difference in temperature from before he added the refrigerant. (For anyone reading this and not knowing what I am talking about: On the condenser [outside unit] your liquid line is usually small copper tubing and should be warm as refrigerant is a superheated vapor at this stage. The larger suction pipe should be cool as the refrigerant is a low pressure liquid at this stage.) I had one of the techs check a vent that still had no air blowing and he said it was normal and I had to wait at least 12 hours for the space to cool. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, I paid them and they left. The next morning the upstairs was still hot, the thermostat read 78 degrees, it was in the low 70's outside and I knew immediately that the A/C had done nothing and was still not working. I called the company back and finally got in touch with a woman after about 10 tries, she told me to hang on and then hung up. A couple of calls later I got the same woman and I told her the issue. She gave me a 2-4 time frame for the technician, which later changed to 4-6. Alfredo (the owner) showed up and found that the blower motor was not running and we needed a new motor. I mentioned to him that I had told the previous technician that this was probably the problem and asked why he ignored me and didn't find it the day before. His answer "it runs sometime and doesn't run sometimes." Come on, I told them the issue and they found something else, I questioned there solution and told me not to worry and to be patient, they charged me $195 to charge the unit which I
