Remodel a Bathroom

The bathroom is beautiful, as always it ends up costing more than you thought it would. Martin was our contractor and he is excellent , here everyday from early to normal quitting time. Very happy with his work. We had a painter named Bill and he also was excellent. I want to tell anyone that has a remodeling job, we are so glad we went through home advisors and went with RE Construct, John is terrific and the job turned out excellent.

Their men were prompt, courteous,clean and respectful. They did two bathrooms and kitchen. They were OLD and ugly but now are so pretty. I only wish I had did this sooner. I would definitely use them again. They workmen also gave me some very helpful ideas.

Remodel a Basement

This company was a real pain to work with. Their workmanship and customer service is horrible. They didn't complete the job- I had subcontractors of theirs walk off the job. They didn't communicate with us after many attempts and are now lying about the job that was completed or maybe I should say not completed. They took shortcuts and didn't do an honest job. The tile in the bathroom is crooked and the electric is barely done to pass code. This company has been a complete nightmare to work with- I would highly recommend you find another company for your project. We are currently working with both the Better Business Bureau along with the Johnson Country District Attorney's office on this matter.

Unfortunately there are times where you cannot make amends, no matter how much effort you put forth. This Client had much more going on in their lives than a basement remodel. The end result was they declared bankruptcy and were unable to pay their final bill on a project that was completed per the contract outlined. Additionally, they did not allow for the final inspection to occur and the permit was closed.

Remodel a Kitchen

They do very nice work. The company is very responsive to questions and accommodate special needs or requests. Be certain they spell out every detail you desire in your remodel and do not assume anything is included- even if it only makes sense. They are a bit slow....still not completed after almost 2 months.

HomeAdvisor uses an extensive screening process to screen businesses and business owners/principals. We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. If you have concerns that a pro in our network doesn't meet these standards, please contact us to investigate. We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Businesses will not be admitted to the network if their owners or principals have the following felonies in their available criminal records*:

Arson

Assault/domestic violence/battery

Child abuse

Intimidation/terrorist threats

Kidnapping/abduction

Lewd and lascivious behavior

Manslaughter/murder/homicide/vehicular homicide

Rape/incest

Robbery/carjacking

Sex offenses

Other felonies not listed above that occurred in the past seven years

Contracting without a license in the past seven years

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. Please be advised that, during this period, if we could not perform a background check, HomeAdvisor will allow the business into the network and match the business to consumers. As affected government agencies and courts begin to re-open, we will resume our program in those jurisdictions. As always, we encourage consumers to perform their own research, to the extent possible, before hiring any business.

Licensing

We verify any applicable state-level licenses, and we require every business to attest that they carry the appropriate local licensing to practice their trade. Please note that HomeAdvisor does not confirm local licensing. Do your own research using online ratings, reviews and through phone interviews before hiring a company.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
