If possible, I would certainly give R and K Heating and Cooling less than a 1-star rating. On July 17, 2020, my home warranty sent them to my home to check my air conditioner, because it was not cooling properly. After about a 30-minute visit, I was informed by the technician that he could not find anything wrong with it, and the problem was because it was so hot outside, the air conditioner could not keep up. When the temperature dropped at night, my thermostat was still showing 4 degrees warmer than what it was set on and ran constantly. The same company was sent again on Tuesday, July 21st. This time, I went outside and stayed with the technician. He was at my home for over an hour and informed me the capacitor was weak and the unit needed a pound of Freon. That should have been found the first time. Since then, the air conditioner has worked perfectly. A few weeks later, the air conditioner of my daughter quit working completely. She has the same home warranty, and they sent the same company, R and K. Because she was not feeling well, I met the technician. He told me the TXV valve and the fan motor in the the air handler was not working. He thought the valve broke causing the fan motor to quit working. I asked him if the warranty would cover the repairs and parts, and he said, *Yes.* NEVER once was Freon mentioned. He stated it would take about two weeks to get the parts and complete the repair. The next day, my daughter received a message from the warranty company stating that there were limitations on what they would pay. She called R and K and was informed by them that the warranty company would only pay $10.00 a pound for the Freon, and she needed 8 pounds. Then she was informed that she would have to pay $560.00 out of pocket for Freon before they would start the work order and said the Freon had to be removed because of the type of repair. That was in addition to the $80.00 the warranty company would be paying. That is $640.00 for 8-pounds of Freon - - $80.00a pound! (Twice the competition) I knew something was not right. My daughter called her brother. My son investigated with friends that are in the business and also called Robert, the owner of R and K, and questioned what he was doing. Robert said, *The Freon must be removed, and it is my policy to never capture and reuse the Freon of the customer*. (How convenient). He then went on to say, *If you do not like the way I do business, find someone else.* My daughter did just that. The warranty company sent another company for a second opinion. Who would have guessed? All that needed to be done was to replace the fan. The valve was good and the Freon did not have to be removed or even topped off. Two days later, her air conditioner was repaired and is working great. My son called Robert at R and K and told him how he felt about what had happened. The response of Robert was: It is fixed, is not it? I do not know how anyone with this attitude and poor business practices can stay in business. I do not know how he can sleep at night. Not only was he taking advantage of my daughter, but also the warranty company, because they would have paid him for a part that was not needed and $80.00 for Freon that was not needed. The customer service representative I spoke with at HomeAdvisor suggested that I tell you that R and K also have a Winterville, NC office (ID # 51623950) that is...
