I paid $500 for Ricardo to come look at my house. He spent less than an hour and promised a letter describing the problems within 7-10 days. It took 20 days for the letter to arrive. It didnâ t mention wall cracks in a bathroom.Ricardo promised to rewrite it. When the second letter arrived, those cracks were mentioned in one sentence, without photos of the cracks. During the initial phone contact, he promised that solutions to the structural problems would be available at additional costs, but now heâ s not offering that. I paid $500 for his unsubstantiated opinions.

RNS was prompt to contact me and took the time to explain what our house needed. I know they are busy with lots of projects and Ricardo was able to help fit our project in and get it back to us so that we could begin the next steps quickly and that was greatly appreciated!

Ricardo put my mind at ease. He let me know the wall I'd like to remove is indeed removable. There's nothing better than knowledge and experience.

I chose RNS based on feedback from this site. I called him up to talk about potential issues, he was very helpful. I decided not to shop around based on his homeadvisor rating. He quoted me $375 and was told there would be no extra charges even though I didn’t live in Vancouver. During our conversation he told me the minimum I would pay would be $375. When he left, he charged me $475 and when I questioned him about the discrepancy, he told me he charged everyone out here $475. Who in their right mind would pay $100 for someone in Vancouver when there are tons of engineers in Portland/Beaverton who won’t charge the extra $100? Rewinding back to the day he arrived, after showing him my problems he did not solve the issues I had discussed and hired him for; he also did not provide products I’d expect after paying someone this much. In our initial call, I had told him I didn’t have blueprints, when he arrived he only provided a quick fix and to do a permanent one he said he would need blueprints. If no blueprints were available, then someone would have to go around poking holes in walls to map out the correct walls. Had I known that he would’ve needed blueprints regardless to solve my problem, then, I wouldn’t have hired him until I had blueprints. That may have been a miscommunication between us, but regardless, he should’ve stated that expectation. I’m just a homeowner that doesn’t know about structural engineering, he has had decades of experience with quite possibly the same problems. Lastly, to fix my wall, he simply drew it on a broken piece of dry wall. I paid someone $475 to make a drawing on a broken piece of drywall, how would you feel? I simply felt cheated because I got a drawing on the back of a piece of drywall, I was told I needed blueprints when I told him I didn’t have any, and lastly because I got cheated out of $100. When he left, he told me I could contact him anytime about any other questions I had. He was a very nice guy but I’m definitely going to pay the base fee again with another engineer. I don’t want to pay this guy’s $100 extra fee to come out to my house again.

We were extremely happy with the structural consulting we received on our house from Ricardo at RNS. Will definitely hire again!

I thought I was going to have to make drastic changes in a patio cover. Ricardo looked at what i had built already and came up with modifications that preserved the aesthtics that I was trying for.
