Woof. It started great - the sales represenative went above and beyond to guarantee me that my concerns were not valid and they would deliver. That's the end of the positive feedback. We had two moving companies come visit us and estimate how much stuff we'd be moving. One said 1,000 ft^3, the other said just under 1,100 ft^3. I sent those estimates to a number of other companies for comparison. Royal gave a great price and told me while they could only guarantee a 2-day window for pickup, we'd get 24 hours notice for which day it would be and then we'd get 2 hours on the day so we'd know when movers would arrive. My sales rep also said the movers are experienced at packing tight so that the volume estimates would be good. We talked to the sales team two days before our window, and they again couldn't tell us when movers would come. On the day before our 2-day window began, we took a break from packing late at night since we hadn't gotten a call about movers arriving. The following morning at 8:30 AM, I received a call from a driver saying he'd be there in an hour. I told him stuff wasn't anywhere near ready, and he gave me until 3:00 PM to be ready. When he arrived, he assessed our stuff and told me it might be 1,400 or 1,500 ft^3. What am I going to do with that information now? How am I going to assess that myself? Of course I told him to proceed, and after he called it into the office, it became 1,700 ft^3. So on the day of moving without proper notice, we got a 60 percent upcharge that made the price the same as the more reputable companies that visited. Ok, if it was just the price, we could deal with that. The driver asked me when we would be ready to accept our stuff on the other side of the move, and I told him four days later. He said, "we'll be there before that so you should be able to get it when you arrive." Nine days after we arrived is when they showed up, again giving notice ten (!!!) minutes before they arrived at our storage units. Furniture was broken, table tops had been scraped off, boxes were smashed, and we're still assessing the damage. Nothing was placed like we'd organized it so that we'd be able to access the stuff we needed. Don't send bicycles with these folks - they took them apart without any idea what they were doing and now our bicycles will need full rebuilds...kind of tough to claim that through insurance. Upon their estimate, I rented 1,500 ft^3 of storage space knowing we'd be taking some of our stuff back to our rental. It was 3 500 ft^3 units - we filled two of them and barely needed to use the third. When I called the company to get a refund on their bad estimate, I was told that we needed to pay for the empty space above our stuff in their truck. While there was empty space in the truck, there was none in the storage unit. So much for packing stuff efficiently. Apparently I should have been in the truck instructing guys how to pack stuff. Nothing about this firm felt good after the initial booking. Every communication with the office was polite and positive, and every aspect of the actual service provided stunk. We're still having our attorney determine what our recourse is here, and it's sad that we have had to go down that route, but it's clear that they don't care and this is our only path to something fair. Pay some actual money for a firm that anyone has heard of before.
