We contracted (approx. $4000) four tests/mitigations to RAData in May,June & July 2017: Radon and Water Tests; Radon Mitigation and Water Mitigation. Several avoidable problems occurred. June 23rd I called RAData and asked that a copy of the permits be emailed to our lawyer (per our contract with the buyer). I followed the call with an email to the same RAData woman. An electrician was not scheduled for the Radon Mitigation June 29th. He couldn’t be rescheduled until July 7th. The radon technician warned us about the possibility of add’l electrical work-we immediately told him there was room in the electrical box. NO PERMITS WERE EVEN APPLIED FOR UNTIL AFTER THE WORK WAS COMPLETED – and no payment was included to the township when the applications were mailed. As a consequence the township could not schedule inspections and we were forced to delay our closing, costing us add’l money. * I was told RAData couldn’t enclose the payment because she didn’t know the cost – but 1 phone call BEFORE contracting with RAData gave me that information. Despite talking with the technician about the electrical box beforehand, the electrician (after sitting in his truck on his cell phone for at least half of the time at our property) put in the more expensive (+$250) outlet – never talking to my husband who was there the entire time! The tests and two remediations were completed and work done well – but the frustrations and delays caused by improper scheduling and not applying for permits (that RAData had already received payment for) could have been avoided. July 16th we mailed a letter to the company president David Grammer detailing the many problems – and resent it the end of August when there was absolutely no response by telephone, mail or email. We would not recommend RAData as a result of the numerous problems associated with their work.
Response by RAdata, Inc.: Hi Beth, We have already responded to you in person and in other forums where you have posted this same comment. We are sorry you are unhappy with the permitting process; and we have explained the Minor Work code numerous times. The Minor Work code is a DCA code, and we follow it. As we have already explained, 98% of the municipalities we deal with will not tell us the fee due until the sub codes are reviewed by their staff and they calculate their multiplier. There are 500+ Municipalities in NJ. We try our best to update each last known permit fee, and that is the price we charge our customer upfront, but prices change due to the cost of the work and municipal multiplier increases. We do not send checks out with permit applications. We have also addressed the electric with you. The electrical work needed was more than the minor work included in our written estimate. We had to wire a home run to the panel and install a new twin 15 breaker to accommodate adding the radon fan. The electric fee is a flat cost for the scope of the electrical work, we do not charge hourly; and we do know our master electrician has to check in with other technicians, order materials, etc. throughout his day. We did not respond to your letter, as we felt it was best to simply issue the credit you were due since you paid both us and your municipality for your permit fees.

They were very polite and kept us in the loop the whole time. As first time home buyers we were really nervous about having to install a radon fan and they were able to answer all our questions
