Reviews
Write a ReviewThis was a while ago but this man walked into my home acting pretty arrogant. He installed the sink then installed the new faucet and got it cross threaded where the gasket was bulging out on the side. When called to come and fix it, he was really short with my mom when telling her that this is the one and only time he would come back and if there were any other complaints i would be charged if he had to return. As if it was my fault he did careless work.
We called Red Star on Sunday after returning home from a weeks evacuation for a wildfire. There was a drip from the valve for the main water shutoff. I asked if there was an extra charge for weekends and was told there was not. They were very responsive and sent someone out that afternoon despite a difficult snowstorm - all good. The plumber was courteous, competent and fast, and the problem is fixed. However... The reason I was left with a bitter taste was simply the price: $685 to replace a simple shutoff valve, less than an hour on site. What he did was: a) shut off the water at the street (the caretaker normally does it but left him his tools and gave him permission to do it); b) cut out the old shutoff valve in the furnace room; c) soldered in a new valve; d) turned the water back on. He also fixed a faulty drain part on the bathtub but said he was not charging us for it, so that does not count toward the final bill. I am sorry, but that was NOT $685 worth of work. No way. Now, in fairness, he quoted me the price before beginning work and I accepted it after he explained that it was a complicated job, shutting off the main water and the house water, purging the system, changing the valve, etc. Did not sound that complicated to me but we had no choice - Sunday afternoon, snowstorm, leaking main shutoff that would flood the basement if it failed. But when he was done in under an hour and I saw what he actually did, it certainly did not seem complicated to the tune of $685. I slept on this overnight to make sure I was not just reacting with inappropriate sticker shock. I do not believe I am. I think we were taken advantage of because we were obviously in a bad spot, and perhaps because we live in a nice neighborhood. Not a good feeling. Not at all.
Hi Edward. Your charges were based on the scope of work involved and the expertise of our service technician. Our tech came prepared, was knowledgeable, professional, and performed an exceptional job for you in a timely manner. There was no need for trips to the supply house and back to your house as his knowledge and expertise allowed him to foresee multiple scenarios of your plumbing issue and was able to address it accordingly with the proper materials in stock on his van. He followed your direction of parking at the end of your long driveway and making the trek back and forth as needed to his van for materials and supplies across your unplowed driveway in a snow storm. He was responsive, attentive, explained things to you, and made sure to advise you of your option to have a second opinion. Your statement of being taken advantage of is unfair and inaccurate. Was that the intent, or if the location of your home was taken into consideration of the charges, it would have been easy to charge for the faulty bathtub drain as well. However, we work with integrity and do not take advantage of our clients regardless of their situation or the house they live in. We are a small family-owned business doing business in the Boulder/Longmont/Lyons area for 15 years. We have managed to stay in business with so many other large mills like plumbing companies around, because of our integrity, professionalism, expertise, and outstanding service.
While the tech DID show up after hours, the problem was NOT resolved. Paid $498 only to have to pay someone else to fix.
Yes we did come out after hours and on an emergency basis. We cabled the line multiple times over 100' and discovered the issue was much more involved, at which time we informed the homeowner that it would require a return trip when we could bring the camera to discover the underlying issue. A return trip first thing the next morning with use of camera took place and was done so complimentary. Diagnostics and recommended service were provided. Client wanted time to discuss with spouse. We did not hear from client after multiple attempts at follow up. We would have been happy to resolve the issue.
Tim is very knowledgeable about all aspects of their services.
Thank you for your review Nadine! We appreciate your business.
Called in the morning on a garbage disposal issue. They were able come out the same day, found the root issue which wasn t obvious, were able to install a great replacement product (super quite), were wearing masks, and were very professional. Would definitely use them again.
Thank you for your review Ed! We appreciate your business.
Sloppy installation resulted in major leak under sink. They left the access door to the crawl space open and the pipes froze. They were terribly overpriced in my opinion.
Gary, we are sorry to hear that you have had an issue. Please contact our office. We offer a 1-year warranty and would be happy to trouble shoot the work completed under warranty. Thank you.
