Project: Clean Out a Sewer
Great experience, difficult repair but tech stayed with it until problem was corrected.

Money-minded and exploitative. Not courteous or service- oriented. Unfair pricing.

More than I expected to pay for the services required. To come out to the middle of Albany and snake a shower drain was $322.00. Since my main concern was the toilet, he did snake it for free to prove that there were no issues which made me more accepting of the final bill.

Project: Clear a Clogged or Slow Drain
Prompt service. Very professional and friendly. Bill cleaned up his work area and left as if he had never been there, except now I no longer have a plumbing problem!

Review by Ralph K. in Albany, NY
This company would not give me a ball park estimate up front even though I gave them explicit details of what needed to be done. They charged me $49 to show up and then an extra $150 to cut open the wall to see the problem I already told them about. They had to go out and get parts after telling me the bill would be an additional $1,365 to do. I had little choice since the cut a large opening in my walls and left me hanging. The guy was gone for 3 hours to get parts! When he came back, he took an additional 6 hours to complete this job. They really needed 2 people to do parts of this job and I had to help the guy complete the job. The office was terrible to communicate with and calls went to an answering service. There was no way to call the worker directly as they have their calls blocked so communication with the company is through a third party. The work was finally complete, but done very unprofessionally and extremely overpriced. DO NOT USE ROOTER-MAN - THE COMPANY IS A RIP OFF!!!
Response by Rooter-Man: Upon learning of Ralph's complaint with our company, a phone call was made to him, as well as the technician to try to get some understanding of the situation. It appeared that Ralph was upset about the price from the very beginning. He requested an estimate over the phone, however, he agreed for us to come out to take a look at the job. Our company does not provide estimates, we provide "up front" pricing. We don't like to pull any "surprises" during or at the end of the job. In order for us to do that, it was necessary for us to open up the wall to determine what needed to be repaired. (Because this is an "older" home, there was the potential of there being other pipe issues in the wall.) Since the work needed to be done according to "code," it was more expensive than a "normal" pipe repair. The cost of the job included labor, parts and the time to get the parts (which could be as much as a few hours). Ralph was made aware of this before he signed and approved us to do the job. Our technician did give Ralph the option, three times, to get other estimates, however, for time's sake, he had us do the job. At Rooter Man, we take our work and customer service very seriously. Our A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, our Angie's Super Service Awards for 7 years in a row, as well as over (500) 5-Star ratings across the internet does tell a story about our service and integrity. It is unfortunate that this situation had occurred, however, we believe that the work, as well as the one-year warranty, provided the service that we continue to stand behind.

The company completed the task but they are very expensive -beware!! I called regarding a leaking faucet in my kitchen and my dishwasher wasn't working. The total cost of the work was $470 (incl. tax). The charged me $49 for the call out, $295 for the work on the faucet and $100 to check if there was water going to my dishwasher, which in my opinion is completely ridiculous! It was clear from the moment Tim stepped into my house that he was going to fleece me as when I explained what the issue was he replied that if it's what I think it is, it's going to cost you $100 and it will take me 2 seconds... like what? Needless to say he was wrong and it was an issue with the faucet cartridge, which he replaced at an astonishing $295. Regarding the dishwasher, I had concerns it wasn't getting water and all he did was take the pipe off, turn the water on and explain it was getting water and must be an appliance issue (and that just cost you $100). What made the whole experience worse is that after fleecing me $470 he have me a $1.50 bag of candy and said "here's something to sweeten your day"???? What you mean, after you just left a horrible taste in it???
Response by Rooter-Man: We appreciate the feedback and do empathize with the additional cost that was incurred involving the inspection (diagnosis) of the dishwasher issue. The technician was following procedures, however, it was decided that the $100 be refunded back to the customer.
