I fell for the nice sales guys pitch that since this was basically Sears, an established company, that it would be reputable and trustworthy work. :-/ Almost nothing the sales guy told me turned out to be true. I needed a *complete* roof replacement, which I knew would be a big job. There were a couple of beams with cracks that I wanted replaced, and I asked if they could handle that, and he said yes, of course, since the whole roof is coming off, they would definitely be able to replace them. I also was really looking forward to finally replacing the incredibly ugly splitting and rotting face boards along the edges! I was assured that it was maybe a 4-5 day job and that it would be scheduled at least a week out from any rain in the weather report because they wanted to do the job right. OK. They seemed very clear on what I wanted and needed before the money exchange happened. Once they had my money, totally different experience. They rushed to set up the job, which suddenly became a **2 day job** since rain was coming in 3 or 4 days. I said that they told me it was really a 4 day job and they were like, **no, it is not a small house. Its just a 2 day job. really** OK...? So, they knocked out the job in 2 days, which was impressive at a glance. The good news is that the roof seems structurally fine and had kept the water out, which is ultimately the most important thing! However... they never did replace (or even look at) the cracked beams that I had mentioned - did not have time in that 2-day rush job! And those fugly rotting splitting facing boards?? I could not believe my eyes when I looked up and saw that they LEFT THEM UP THERE, but simply nailed new 1/2 boards on top of them!!! I know its not critical to the structural integrity of the roof... its just kind of shockingly lazy and unattractive! And they weirdly replaced only about 1/2 of the facing boards along the gutters that they replaced. Why would they only replace half of them??? They replaced the worst of them, but... I did pay for a full job, not a half-ass job. The facing boards were also bare, with no primer painted on. (I had specifically asked if they would be primered and the sales guy said yes, of course, they would have basic white primer to protect them.) The outside clean-up was OK - I had to clean some debris and tar off of my window - but the big shocker came about a month later when I went to get something out of my attic, and pulled the cord for the ladder and was greeted by a rain of splintered wood and nails! I guess I should have thought to check the attic before signing off on the completion paper?? The attic is FULL OF DEBRIS. Yes, it was on my **list** anyway of projects to tackle at some point - to replace the insulation and all in my attic - but I definitely did not expect to have to clean up all this roofing debris that they carelessly created and never thought to clean up! If you can afford to go with someone better, then go with someone better! SEARS may have been a reliable brand and company at one point in time, but their days are gone. My only comfort about their likely-to-be-worthless **30 year warranty** is that I am not likely to live another 30 years anyway so whatevs! The gutters also seem cheap but functional for now. I anticipate replacing the gutters at some point for something better, and just hoping the roof does its job.
