Mike is a joy to work with. He is professional, knowledgeable, and has a deep subcontractor network to draw from. His bids are transparent and you know upfront the cost of each trade, the specific scope of the project, and what his overhead+profit is going to be. I interviewed several contractors before going with Mike on two big projects, a garage-ADU conversion and a major remodel+structural modification. Some contractors would want you to pay them for an estimate/work-breakdown - look, I'm an engineer, I've worked in consulting, I would never ask a potential client to pay for my time to work up a proposal. It's part of doing business. Other contractors would just give you a $/sq ft price, not taking into account specific finishes or materials of construction. Not only is Mike honest about cost, but his experience is invaluable and he is always open to new ideas and eager to learn. Such a pleasure.

Santa Barbara home Purchase ADU rebuilt/Remodel. ADU was out of compliance and Slate Construction rebuilt with all the accommodations of a full kitchen, Bath and Laundry. Mike is an experienced carpenter so really knows his way around building cabinets and doors that fit well. Very thorough about the neighbors and worked well with his crews to get job done on schedule. Would highly recommend Slate Construction for future projects.

I would work with Mike and his team again in a heartbeat! They did both an addition to and an extensive remodel of our 1959 home. Mike is a great communicator, reliable, and trustworthy. He has good relationships with all of his subs, so they show up when he needs them to. It’s a huge deal as far as keeping the project on track. He keeps track of an amazing number of details and keeps clients apprised of progress and the inevitable surprises that come with opening up the walls of a 65-year old home. The few times I noticed issues with subcontractors’ work he got them in fast to fix it. A project like this is a huge investment of time and resources. I feel lucky to have had Mike lead the way for us!

I am a contractor myself so I am well aware of quality, attention to detail and caring, All of which Slate Construction incorporated into my major kitchen remodel. He was very organized from the beginning and took extra steps to keep the interior of the home clean. I can honestly say he?s a perfectionist when it comes to his work. There were many times when he wasn?t happy with the outcome of a task and I thought it looked fine and even told him such, however if he wasn?t happy with it then he would do it over. I also should mention that the project was completed in a very timely manner therefore we did not have to endure the inconvenience of a remodel longer than necessary. I am very pleased and willing to recommend him to anyone.
