Not sure where to even start with this review, other than to tell you: This is NOT your contractor. Save yourself a lot of grief, money, and time. SMA Exteriors, without a doubt, provided us with the worst experience we have had with any contractor/vendor. To add some depth to this statement, my wife is a realtor in new construction, and I am an attorney. We have dealt with our fair share of contractors and contractual issues. SMA was hired to replace our roof and gutters; the entire process was a nightmare. I will try and keep this short Dylan (the owners son) was our sales representative. In a nutshell, Dylan delicately (and awkwardly) avoided questions about gutter repairs during the initial sales meeting, he overpromised on expectations of time and workmanship, and on one occasion, arguably, tried to swindle us into paying more than what was already covered by the insurance proceeds. The extra funds Dylan requested, on top of the insurance proceeds SMA agreed to, was of course for SMA to complete our gutter work the questions avoided in the initial sales meeting. Beware if you need gutter work done, SMA initially only presents you with a roofing contract claiming it is all covered. In our case, our gutters were ripped off by the roofers and we did not have gutters for months. Additionally, SMA took over a month to pick up their extra supplies, which they left in our front yard and ended up killing the grass where it lay. When we asked, we were told it would be months for the gutter work to get done. No one from SMA would return my emails once I started pressing for the gutter work to be completed. I did not receive a response until I grew so frustrated that I sent a litigation-styled email from my attorney's email address. Oddly enough, I got a response then. SMAs scheduler claimed they needed more time; mind you several months passed and it was the dead of winter now. Great time to install gutters, when there is snow and ice on the roof. Oh, and, it was only then that I was presented with a Gutter Contract this could have been done at the initial meeting. As I mentioned, I was firm in letting SMA know that the insurance proceeds, which they agreed to, were going to cover the gutter work. I was not paying anything extra. I threatened to leave an adverse online review, and again, only then did I get a response from the owner himself this time, Steve. Steve attempted to resolve the issue with a myriad of excuses and a shell of an apology. He rescheduled my gutter work sooner to avoid an adverse review. Fast forward to this Spring, when we had several water intrusion problems we did not have before the new roof installation. I reached out to SMA to let them know about the issue, and their lack of response did not surprise me. When SMA did respond they took no ownership of any of the issues and did not even come out to inspect as they are statutorily obligated to once put on notice. They blamed ice dams and washed their hands of any concerns. Ultimately, we had an engineer come out and explain to us that SMA, while not directly responsible for the water intrusion, as a roofing contractor should have explained the lack of ventilation we had. Furthermore, they should have recommended additional ventilation to avoid the attic condensation that often occurs with a new roof. That would have saved us from the additional water intrusion claim we now filed with our carrier. I honestly forgot to write this review, however, I was reminded about it last night when we ran into Dylan who approached us for a handshake as if our experience and transaction were one SMA should be proud of. Again, save yourself the grief, money, and time and find another contractor.

We contracted with SMA Exteriors to do 3 windows and one storm door. The crew that installed the windows was fast and efficient. The storm door was installed many weeks later. When spring arrived and we tried to use the screen window option on our storm door, we discovered that the screen did not work properly. We contacted SMA about this problem and they said it was a manufacturer defect and that it was our responsibility to remove the door and return it to Home Depot. We told SMA that we could not return it to because we did not buy the door from Home Depot, we bought it from SMA Exteriors. Despite this fact, Steve, the owner of SMA, refused to back up the product they sold to us and installed. He even went so far as to tell us that SMA does not do storm doors even though we paid SMA for the storm door and the installation. SMA insisted that it was our responsibility to remove the door ourselves and bring it back to Home Depot, even though we did not have the receipt. SMA then emailed a copy of the receipt so we could bring it back. We removed the door at our expense and returned it to Home Depot with SMA receipt. I wonder if SMA is surprised that we did not hire them to do our new roof? I would never recommend SMA Exteriors to do any kind of exterior work. They did not back up a product they installed in our house. (It makes me wonder if they would make us remove a window and return it to the place of purchase if there was a manufacturer defect.)

    Response from Company:

Hello - we are certainly concerned to see this review because customer satisfaction is extremely important to our success as our 28-year track record shows. In this situation, we did all that we could do to resolve the issue with the customer. Per the signed agreement - any manufacturer warranty claims need to be filed and facilitated by the customer. With a high level of customer service in mind I offered to install the new storm door at no charge to the customer should they get a new door issued. I appreciate all reviews by our customers so we know what we are doing well and what needs to improve - in this situation the review is not a fair assessment of SMA performance.

very courteous and really knew the finer points of proper installation (based on the many install videos I watched on line of other contractors) didn't cut any corners. They showed up on time! Cleaned up after themselves! Came back and fixed an issue with as much enthusiasm as doing the job in the first place, this was really a big one for me. The value/price for the door and window was nothing short of spectacular! This was a great company to work with!

Great interactions with SMA team members. Small concern expressed regarding the finished product and did not receive a response.

We had 5 giant, custom made windows replaced in our 1890 house over a month ago and they look great. The project started almost a month later than expected, but I have found that the current construction climate in greatly short staffed. Every project we have had completely in the past few months has started later than anticipated. Once the project was started, it was completed in 3 days. One of the trim pieces broke during install, and they came back a month later to replace it (the replacement had to be custom made again),

While they did a great job, they took a long time to communicate back and forth, and after the work was done, they didn't cleanup the work site for two weeks.

They were fantastic to work. Everyone from Nick, the sales guy to the crews were very professional. They worked hard and cleanup was great. When there were issues with siding supplies, they kept me informed and worked hard to make it right. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing this kind of work.

My wife an I were away in California the day the roof was reinstalled. My neighbors commented how impressed they were with the crew diligence and thoroughness. That's high praise coming from one of my neighbors who doesn't like anyone's work. I can only comment on the finished product. My wife was happy and that is all that matters.
