Derek is great to work with. He is very responsive and thorough. I had an excellent experience working with him from start to finish. They were professional, reliable, and communicated clearly throughout the entire project. He is willing to go above and beyond to make the experience positive. I would absolutely recommend this contractor to anyone. I plan to hire them again for future projects.

I moved to Rochester and bought a house built in 2004 which needed several upgrades. I hired Derek and his team and they did several jobs including: . Basement - installed glass block windows, recessed lights, drop ceiling & put up a wall and door to close off my family room from the remaining storage area. . Installed a trex deck with privacy fence, lattice to close off under deck with solar lighted railing and steps. . Removed a hideous pagoda structure & disposed of all materials. . Remove rotted wood under windows & replaced with PVC, rekeyed all house locks & installed a garage keypad. . Patched & painted all upstairs ceilings & walls. . Sealed driveway and had the entire house cleaned. I was extremely happy with all the work & attention to detail. I whole heartedly recommend Derek & his team for any and all upgrades/repairs/installations.

Derek and team helped us remodel our kitchen and bathroom. He gave us the quote promptly and started the project right away. He always has the best set of guys working for him. Very professional and on time. The job was completed within a week. We had two crews working on the kitchen and bathroom simultaneously. He helped with picking up all the materials and arranging for dumpster. He was kind enough to accommodate any touch ups needed. This has been the best experience working with a contractor. His workmanship is top notch and he works hard to meet expectations.

S&S was hired to install a bathroom for my 85 yo Mom living independently at home. She needed to be able to be on 1 floor and not have to walk up steep stairs! Derek and his Team put in a beautiful bathroom to help keep her safe! His Team looked at her electric and plumbing prior to starting to update what was needed and avoided any issues as they got into the build! He communicated to us along the way and asked questions and gave updates for any changes needed…great communication in fact! My Mom is happy and able to stay on 1 level! If she needs a knee replacement, she can heal at home…and stay at home…thanks to Derek and his wonderful Team!

We recently had our bathroom remodeled by Derek and team and I couldn't be happier with the results! They helped us design a space that is both beautiful and functional! They stayed on schedule and handled my crazy changes with ease. I love our new bathroom couldn't be happier!

Derek and his team have completed work for me, clients, family and investment properties. Total we have completed 25+ projects together and my personal home. At my personal home we pulled wall paper down, repainted the walls, did the exterior overhaul with siding, shutters, painting and gutters. In my previous home, Derek and team also did a kitchen, bathroom, flooring, electrical, and had the entire house painted and wallpaper removed. Every single time, I've worked with Derek, his communication has been great, honest and fair. The workmanship has been stellar each time, and always on schedule. The time something was going to be delayed due to shipping, Derek was honest and upfront and let me know his supplier was a bit behind - no harm, project finished and well done. I highly recommend Derek and his team. You cannot go wrong with his work, pricing, and communication.

If you are considering S&S Custom Remodeling, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Derek presents himself as professional and capable of handling any project. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. He completed three separate projects for me, and each one ranged from poor to unacceptable. A handyman installed a washer and dryer but failed to properly connect the lines, resulting in a gas leak. The bathroom contractor?s work had serious flaws and he left debris and cigarette butts in my garage. The painter started off adequately but then dragged the job out by working approximately one hour a day for weeks. Derek did not supervise any of these workers or inspect their work upon completion. He paid them when they claimed the job was done, leaving me to discover and deal with the problems myself. I asked Derek to reimburse the $1,200 I had to spend to correct the washer and dryer installation so it could be safely redone. He stopped responding entirely. My experience was TERRIBLE!

This is an update to my review on 5/28/25. A few weeks after submitting my review I got a text message from a mutual acquaintance of Derek's and I. The text starts out as if that person just wanted to catch up with me (asking something to the affect of how are you doing"). I responded back and next thing I know, this person asks me to take down my review of Derek and his company. When I explain that I would not, this acquaintance of Derek's and I starts to insult me and call me names. I only wrote this bad review years later because I started seeing a pattern of his companies shortcomings from other's reviews here as well. They experienced the same issues and I wanted to ensure no one else had to experience this as well. Not sure if Derek had this person text me on his behalf or not, but goes to show the drama you will possibly encounter if you hire this guy. Business is business and his friends have no right to try and intervene in others financial and business dealings.

Derek and the crew did a complete renovation of my late Father in-law's house. They completely renovated the kitchen down to the studs, completely renovated a basement bathroom with wall-to-wall tile, new shower basin, ceiling tiles and so much more. The entire interior was repainted as well. They refinished the floors which was an outstanding touch to wrap the project up. Derek stayed on schedule and on budget. We trusted him with a project that was several tens of thousands of dollars. I still feel that we got an incredible deal for the sheer volume of work that was completed and the value that was added to the house. I trusted Derek and S&S, I hope others trust him as well!

Derek will promise the moon and deliver quite short of that. His issues are not "one off's", as reading the other reviews left here, the problems are the exact same. He tells you he can complete something as you desire and then make excuses why he can't, once the job has been started. Told us our bathroom remodel would take 3 to 3 and a half weeks to complete - took al.ost 10. We wanted a custom barn door to block bathroom from laundry room - told us after the fact that his carpenter didn't want to build a custom door and we would have to go with a sliding standard door - had us pick out our shower pan and at the end of the project, found out the pan was not compatible with a glass shower door that we wanted from the get go. He didn't bother to follow up to ensure the own was made for a shower door. For the $16,000 job we now have a shower curtain - Derek constantly forgot things we discussed on numerous occasions and had to remind him over and over again This company sucks

This company blows a lot of smoke if you know what i mean. Poor craftsmanship owner swears to be a professional but I would say a rookie at most.

The owner Derrick is a great sales person did not follow thru with work and had provided many excuses throughout the our project of not having quality help, almost getting into a fist fight with one of his workers, a death in his family to name a few. Derrick also asks many questions throughout the process be seems to forget things and must review numerous times. Also claims he is a perfectionist but in my is far from a perfectionist leaving behind painters tape still stuck to the wall, paint on glass, and floor. My advice would be proceed with caution.

I did not have any problems with this company. He was extremely polite and attentive.
