Project: Install or Replace an Asphalt Shingle Roof
We had a salesman come out and give an evaluation. 14000 for a reroofing with the famous Sears warranty. Sears went under a year later. The color of the tiles was wrong, they didn't tell us until they took the old roof off. They halfheartedly replaced the gutters, and returned several times to fix. The front yard was full of nails. So my advise buyer beware.

Salesman said inspection would be handled. To date it has not been done. We are making payments in good faith, maybe should not be but we have enjoyed the new system. Contact via email has not gotten a response as yet. Job was done June.

Run away from them. We've been waiting two months for our installation. We keep getting the run around and different excuses as to why the project has not been started. We are now going into late October, and winter in New England without a working heating system, thanks to SEARS Home Service.

Everyone, including the sales personnel, the project manager and the vendor who performed the actual work, everyone was professional, courteous and reliable. We would hire them again and recommend Sears Home Improvement.

Project: New Windows - 3-5
Part 1 of 3: I ran out of room and had to make this 3 parts, that's how crappy my experience was. Window Install Date: July 16th ish... I have had the most frustrating experience dealing with Sears window installation. The initial measuring, ordering, and delivery of the windows went well. That where the 1.5 stars comes in. It was downhill from there. I have real stucco on the front of my house, the installer did not realize this. So at first, he put the wrong window in the wrong place, something about the more expensive windows frame would not bend as much, so it had to be put in where my stucco was. I guess since he didn't know it was real stucco, he didn't know that was why I had ordered only that many of the upgraded windows. Of course this could all be an up-sell on behalf of the salesman under the guise of being a building code requirement, but I'll never know. So after I tell him that the window is in the wrong frame, he tried to fit the other window in anyway and of course it didn't fit. So he had to swap the windows anyway. Keep in mind that this is the same guy that did the measurements for the windows. On to the "Oh no this is real stucco?" part. I am not even in the room where they are doing the install and I hear very loud banging. I go into the room where they are and he's got a hammer in his hand knocking out the stucco. I made the comment "I would think they would make specialized saw blades for that kind of thing huh?" He said, they do. I just didn't bring any cause I didn't know this was real stucco. He assured me that any damage would be taken care of by Sears if any were to occur. So he comes back the next day to install the rest of the 4 windows that are going in the stucco, with tools this time. He reassures me that all will be well and if not Sears will fix it. At the end of the day, I go to him and his demeanor had changed to a "just get me out of here" type. I asked how everything was going, and he said that Sears would definitely have to send out repair people. He kind of hurries up, grabs his stuff gets me to sign some stuff. I ask how long it will be before they call me with the stucco guy appointment. That's when he tells me that I will have to find a local stucco contractor and send Sears bids from these contractors because Sears doesn't have a stucco guy. GREAT. Then he tells me that because they have to come in and fix the stucco, that he can't seal the windows and that it's very important to get done within 2 or 3 weeks so that we don't have to deal with potential wood rot from moisture etc around the window frames. He then says that he will come out after the stucco guy is done and fix the inside of the window frame, sheet rock, and seal the windows to finish the installation. Thanks for the timeline on finding a contractor locally and then make sure that I save Sears money by sending them 3 or 4 bids! Shouldn't the project manager [PM] be doing this? Thankfully I insisted on getting a number of the PM, b/c

The contract was signed on July 2. Today is September 2. Two months (!) after signing, I am still waiting. VERY BAD!

Great experience overall. Install was on time. People were respectful of property. The only negative is the placement of a pipe on ceiling and not in the attic. It’s outside in ceiling of my covered porch when first was proposed to install outside on roof to be invisible. It’s fine and looks okay since pipes were covered with aluminum casing. But would have preferred original plan of invisible via placement on roof.

The subcontractors are the best. Those 3 guys came in and really reassured the customer with their innovative ideas for problem areas and willingness to do extra things for which they aren't obligated. They keep the communication going where a large business can't. In fact, my only negative experience with Sears was the phone tag with the project coordinator. But, that's to be expected with a large business. Thankfully, the siding crew filled in the gaps.
