Hired Dwayne to grade the area around my barn. Dwayne was very quick to answer my request and presented himself as a very friendly good ole guy. After finishing the grading around my barn Dwayne then encouraged me to put in an electrical line running from my house to the barn to run two fans for my horse. He had the machine there and was eager to start the project. I asked Dwayne if he was a licensed electrician and if the work would be up to code when finished. He assured me that it would be. One week after finishing all the work the GFI kept popping and I would have to reset it. Then it would not even reset at all. I called in a licensed electrician to determine the problem and Dwayne apparently used inside wiring without a conduit and placed it in the ground. Ran the plug to an outside socket with exposed wiring instead of hooking it up to the electrical panel and left the outlet that he hooked up in the barn hanging. I contacted Dwayne and asked that he make things right. He told me that he would be over by the end of the week. He was a no call no show. Called him on Monday, and he said he would be over Thursday. Again a no call no show. Dwayne insists that he has been an electrician for over 30 years and that the GFI keeps popping off because they are very sensitive. Dwayne is no electrician and should not be hired for any electrical work. The grading so far has been good but time will tell if it will resolve my drainage problem around my barn! UPDATE 4/28/2020: The project cost me $1,200 which I have lost, and we have to get the trench re-dug, and we need to do the job all over again.

Dwayne was incredible!! He came right over to evaluate the issue of water seepage into my crawl space during heavy rain. He determined that the cause was a clogged underground drainage pipe. He went right to work and confirmed that the pipe was indeed clogged, and he quickly unclogged it. Other contractors were trying to sell me french drains and a sump pump to "manage" this water seepage, Dewayne went right to the problem AND resolved it. His price was very reasonable! He even planted grass seed where he had dug a hole!! I would give him a 10 star rating if possible ! I highly recommend Dewayne Self. He is an honest man, a man of integrity who I feel fortunate to have met.

Project: Grade or Reslope Grounds for Landscaping
Initially, I wanted to hire this gentleman because of his good HomeAdvisor reviews. After our first contact, I felt fortunate to be able to hire a person of his caliber. Mr. Self did EVERYTHING right throughout our project. He called me immediately after Home Advisor notified him. He made a same-day appointment (as I recall), showed up on time ready to discuss my fairly complicated project, and let me know of his ongoing obligations to other customers. He did his best to work me in ASAP due to my extenuating circumstances: I was unable to get up my very steep and long driveway and had gone over the slope several times! Dwayne clearly has the work ethic, drive, knowledge, physical/mental strength, and machinery to perform as a first rate grading/excavating/landscaping contractor and overall handy-man! He created two safe and separate turn-arounds/parking sites (with drainage pipes and grass seed/straw stabilization considerations) in areas where several other contractors would not even consider bidding on the job, much less show up for appointments. He risked life and limb, (not to mention copperheads!) to clear two HUGE piles of brush that had accumulated over several years of unsuccessful clearing and burning attempts. I quit being surprised when Dwayne was able to diagnose mechanical problems and fix my 4-wheeler and ancient Bush Hog that were just taking up shed space and sucking the oxygen out of my air! Then, as a finale, wouldnt you know it: He jumped on the 4-wheeler (despite the heat and his fatigue) and made my overwhelming, brushy property look pretty in just a small amount of time. Throughout our project, Dwayne was unfailing polite, attentive, kind, and professional; he made me feel like an important and valued customer worthy of his best effort. In the past, I have had many experiences with various contractor; most have been ordeals of varying grades. I strongly encourage any one with a project to consider the attributes of this ethical, hard-working man. I know that I certainly I look forward to working with him on future projects.

Dwayne was fantastic. He showed up on time, wrote a quote the same day, and started work within a week of payment. This driveway needed major resloping and drainage installed. He completed the work in less than a month with constant updates and courtesy. It s a very difficult mountain location to reach, and it was even more difficult finding someone willing to meet within the confines of my work schedule. Dwayne was great to work with, was self-motivated to complete the work in a timely fashion, and honestly did much more than I was expecting for the amount I was billed. I ll be calling him back to do periodic maintenance on the driveway.

Dwayne Self is wonderful to work with. Even though I was far away in Florida, we communicated easily and clearly by phone and text, and he did a great job of creating a gravel driveway for my 6 acre parcel of wooded mountain land. He was helpful in making decisions about the type of driveway, and was easy to work with in negotiating a price that worked for both of us. I would definitely hire him again, and I have recommended him to several friends in the area.
