We had a stressful and frustrating experience with this company. They violated building code, built an unlevel floor and quoted contradictory time frames which caused confusion and lack of transparency with estimate. The worst part is that they denied their faulty work (saying the outer edges of the floor "matched", while the middle dipped significanly, and we had to have it professionally releveled). The Sextons offered no apology, just avoidance. They also provided no receipts for materials which would have shown good faith as they did not complete the job. We had to: pay extra money to fix their faulty work, deal with extra messes, and extend our project an extra month. We do NOT recommend this company.

If I could have a 0 review I would. This is a horrible LAZY company. They come out and don't do a full days work and than over charge for "skilled labor". Which isn't skilled at all. They are fat lazy guys that take so many breaks and take months to complete a simple project. They do not meet deadlines and make you pay more for things to that aren't necessary. Horrible communication as well.... DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! Filed numerous complaints about them and they are paying to get them removed so they can continue to rip people off.

Bob and his guys replaced our deck and we absolutely love it! I knew exactly JACK about deck building and design, so I let Bob take the reigns and he delivered! He gave us a simple yet elegant design that fits our unique space PERFECTLY! Bob and Jane were responsive to all our questions and kept constant communication about the scheduling. 10/10 would recommend and would hire again.

Great experience! Not only did they do a great job, at the time of pay, neither one of us remembered about my down payment and it wasn’t taken off what I owed. I would’ve never known or remembered but they emailed and were 100% honest about the mistake and sent me a check! Great company, very nice and HONEST people. It was honestly refreshing! Thx guys!!

Must be clear to what you want and hold to it. We asked a certain thing, but got another because Mr. Sexton thought it looked better his way. Overall the work was good, and of decent value.

Two men for 1 hr and charged $300 labor.

Part of our deck needed to be replaced.. They came promptly to give an estimate, then came promptly to repair the deck. They were very professional, polite, and did good work.

I do not usually do negative reviews but this situation has me so pissed off I am going to do it. Bob is very nice and personable and gave me a fair quote for what I asked him to do. However, the actual job did not live up to the expectations. Project - new deck boards for a 10' x 30' deck. Replace stair treads and risers, replace 1 stringer and anchor the others. Replace handrails. All this was done. Bob also worked with the lumber supplier to replace most of the less than satisfactory decking boards they delivered. Clean up was well done and the same day as the project was finished. BUT - I asked (and was charged for) all screw holes in the decking to be a pilot hole drilled to eliminate splitting and allow the screws to be more easily placed. If this was done, it was not done in most locations. The S/S screws (again, requested and charged for) were not consistently seated, and when I went to reseat several because they were sticking up above the surface I found that they were actually sheared off and just put back in the hole!! I found 6 so far and expect to find more, it is just been too hot to keep doing this. So I had to remove all the screws in that board (14 screws in the 8 boards and 20 screws in the 12; boards), extract the broken screw with vise grips, and then drill pilot holes and reinsert the screws. Except that at least 60 % of the original screws were buggered up from the excess torque used when originally inserted. So far I have had to replace 150 unusable screws. NOT the workmanship I expected and paid for. In several locations where the posts have undercuts the decking was not fitted in the post recess, just cut to go alongside the post edge leaving a large recess that looks like crap. I had to rectify that situation in 4 places so far with several to go. Deck boards were not extended past the facia boards. Now I have got to redo that and purchase more wood, which has gone up dramatically in price. I have moved boards to minimize what I have to buy, but it is still a lot of work I should not have to do. Between more screws and replacement boards to correct his mistakes, I figure it will cost me $300- $400 to correct his mistakes! Butt end cuts on the boards are NOT square. Everyone is off by 1.5 degrees. Come on, Bob, check your equipment. Every board I have to rework now has to be custom cut to match the butt joint. The deposit was given as soon as requested (even though no work was done for 2 months - yes, I know, the weather was a factor), the wood was paid for when it was delivered to the site and the final check was hand-delivered when the job was completed. Had to meet Bob in a parking lot to deliver the check, in the mail the next day was not good enough. I think you have cash flow problems that should not be the problem of the customer. After I did all this follow-up work I attempted to contact Bob. it took 3 phone calls (with voice mail messages) and two weeks for him to get back to me. And no attempt to mitigate the situation. So I find that I cannot give any more than 2 stars, and certainly will not be recommending Sexton Home Improvements to any of my friends.

Responsive, reliable, conscientious. Will hire again for future projects.
