Let me start with the positive. Randy was very pleasant to speak with. When I submitted my request into HomeAdvisor for quotes on installing a whole home generator...He called back and actually spent a significant amount of time on the phone with me talking about the job and various other topics. He quoted me over the phone without seeing the job because he stated he would come out on our scheduled day but called last minute to say he could not make it because his car was in the shop. He quoted me 700.00 cheaper than my lowest quote. He seemed confident on the phone and I opted to go with his company. He quoted me a 2-day time frame to complete the job. We scheduled a date for him to come out and I paid him half of the job up front on a credit card. He told me on the phone that he would have to charge me a 100.00 more if I did not place the 500lb generator within a couple feet of the pad that it was going to sit on. I moved the generator myself and placed it in the grass next to the generator pad. I took the day off of work and received a call that morning saying that he was not going to be able to start the job as his employee quit on him the night before. He said that he still wanted to come out and take measurements so he knew how much gas pipe was needed as the job required running a gas line from one side of the house to the other. I also asked that he help me place the generator on the pad as I did not want it to sit on the grass. He did help me. The next visit...He showed up with a father-son team at 10:45 am to start the job and then left at 1:30 pm. He then came back again with the same guys and showed up at 10:30 am and left at 2:45 pm because they said that they wanted to avoid traffic. He then asks me to cut him a check for half of the second installment even though his invoice says half up front and rest due upon completion. I send him another payment via credit card per his request. This is now a month since the original scheduled date to do the job. I was assured that the job would be completed on this last appointment and guess what...Randy calls me the morning of and says that the other guys have a family emergency and he will not be able to make it. At this point, I decided to fire him and hire a different company. To make matters worse...The gas pipe that he ran and did not complete was not even big enough to support the generator and had to be scrapped. The preliminary lines that he drilled into the side of my house needed to be removed as they were not to code and panel that he mounted was not in the right spot. All of the work he did needed to be redone by this other company who...mind you...completed the job in 1 day. While Randy was truly a nice guy...He did an absolutely horrible job on the generator and I would strongly caution anyone from using him for this specific need. He has amazing reviews in other areas but I now have holes all over my cedar siding...Holes in my ceiling that need to be patched a clock that was ina

Randy called within 15 minutes of my requesting a quote. Came and gave an estimate that was $2850 lower than the only other quote that I was able to obtain although I had called or talked with at least 9 other electricians. Most would not even come and look at the job. Randy and Ivan did very professional work in and were here several times to work though the details with ComEd and the City Inspector. Would recommend Smith Electrical anytime.

Excellent service

We lost power in 2 rooms and Smith Electric called us, while I was still on line at the home advisor web site. They came out early that afternoon. They were professional, courteous. They fixed our problem in the fuse box right away. Will definitely call them again for any future electrical issues in our home.

Had ceiling fan repaired..from a very high vaulted 2 story ceiling. had to use a very tall scaffold and he didn't charge me extra. Randy was very helpful and knowledgable. very reasonable price too! I already referred him to a coworker.

Randy was great. He installed 3 ceiling fans for me on high ceilings. He is very responsive and reliable. We ran into one unexpected wiring problem, and Randy walked us through the options and fixed it for a nominal cost. I already hired him again for another job.

Randy installed a electrical outlet in ceiling of a bedroom and then put fan in. Very happy with work done. I would hire him again.

Randy was very professional and gave a very detailed report on the extent and options for making a ground connection to my outlets. He was up front with the cost estimate and there were no surprises once he completed the job. He had to visit twice and was punctual each time he came out. I also liked the idea that he personally answered his phone. It eliminated 3rd party calling. I gave Randy high marks for a job well done and I would hire him again. He was easy to talk to and I was very pleased with his work.
