Concrete Driveways & Floors Installation
We hired Solidscapes to do four jobs. The first job was to install a paver walkway on an upper level and cover a cement patio on a lower level. This work is marginally acceptable. Because of the red Georgia clay and the sloppy work, the color of the upper pavers is noticeably different from the lower pavers, and most likely permanently stained red, even though I have pressured washed the upper level at least four times. Additionally, the contractor's clean-up for the paver work is unacceptable. Solidscapes first used a piece of heavy equipment to pick up the large amount of excess "Crush and Run" and sand underlayment that I paid for. While I understand why Solidscapes used the heavy equipment first, I was expecting them to use a shovel to pick up the remaining underlayment, but they didn't. Instead, they continued to use their heavy equipment and permanently scarred the relatively new double-wide parking pad. Additionally, the contractors ground into our driveway (in some places) red Georgia clay that we have not been able to remove with a pressure washer. The second job was to install a wooden fence. The contractor used pre-assembled fencing with a few warped and/or damaged boards. And, once installed, the fence was not plumb. The contractor had to remove the entire fence, replace some boards or sections, then reinstall and make plumb. So far, that work is now acceptable. They third job was to clear a small area of land, lay ground cover to slow weed growth, then lay pine straw. This job is also unacceptable. First, the contractor used the heavy equipment mentioned above to clear the land. Solidscapes created deep ruts, damaged felt and scattered pine straw on a previous job while getting to the land area. The contractor also tore out underground gutter drain pipes and the cable TV line. Finally, they did not lay down the ground cover that I paid for. Instead, Solidscapes laid down the pine straw so thin that I can clearly see the ground underneath. They also laid down the extra pine straw that should have been used on the cleared land around a tree where we did not want pine straw. The forth, and most expensive job was to lay sod. I will reserve comments on the sod work, but am not optimistic the sod will survive because of the way it was handled. More to follow. Solidscapes said they would come out to correct some of the work two weeks ago. No action yet, and I have several pictures of the poor work. If Solidscapes comes out to correct these deficiencies, I will leave additional feedback. If one should decide to hire Solidscapes, I would make sure that someone stay very close to prevent the shortcuts the company took on my jobs.

Concrete Patios, Walks & Steps Installation
My issue was at the end regarding cleanup. 1. Parking pad next to replaced side walk was left with cement droppings and caked red Georgia Clay. 1a. Solution would have been to pressure wash cement debris and red clay off of parking pad. 2. Edges of new side walk did not have excess cement removed. 2a. Cement splashed on front door and brick by front door. Expected the contractor to do this. 3. The two supervisors were floating between my job and others resulting in language communications problems. Job cost $3500 and my expectations were leave job site as found. I am left to resolve this issue.

First off, to find anyone worth hiring for a job around here is difficult enough let alone assuming you will receive professional workmanship from such vendor. All I asked for was a basic cement slab in the back yard. It started out with driving a compact bobcat on my yard and leaving me with ruts because someone was too lazy to cover the entire path needed to reach the back yard. Ignoring that, I watched as first timer laborers on concrete formed the area that was to be filled. Asking questions at every point so I felt comfortable with, I basically received a half assed job that needed to be severely corrected because of the poor form built and left a mess on the house during the pour. Even after I ignored the house splatter and stated I will manage and repaint, the pad was never finished. Not only was it not finished, it should have been at a suggested 2% grade as Jacob suggested. Well that didn’t happen either so now every time it rains I have a pond. Now to get to this point was 5 weeks on a 2 day job If done correctly. I know because I have had it completed before. They wanted 50% up front, I gave them a little more figuring it would spur good faith. What I got was an old man yelling at unskilled laborers who were trying their best and the job never completed. So I bought a grinder and have been completing the job myself. Very disappointed with such a choice. Would not recommend this company because they are taking on too many jobs and lacking resources to do so. If you're boasting about getting a contract to do concrete work for the City of Atlanta, I’m assuming you can do concrete work. Guess not. Interested in your response to this post!

They installed a paver pathway and a flagstone pathway. The flagstone pathway had to be completely redone. The path was not even or level. They did come out and fix that. The sand under the paver pathway washed away with rain because they did not backfill around the path. We fixed that ourselves. Nobody on site spoke English which made communication difficult.

They did a nice job for us in the Lake Burton area. Removed 4 tiers of railroad ties and replaced the walls with new blocks and backed filled walls with rock for drainage. Also installed new wall in front of deck to stop ground from pushing deck. They came when they said they would, answered all my question during the entire process. I was very happy and would hire again if needed.

On site workers not fluent in English. Lack of communication negatively impacted project. Owner (Jacob) did not seem interested until I sent him a list of 14 deficiencies. Retaining wall set back 12" from desired location. Workers made own decisions on shape of retaining wall. Dirt and rocks got into swimming pool. Removed fence not properly reinstalled. Intermingled their trash and gravel wth mulch I had in yard and pushed all over hill, but still in my yard. Did not remove this trash. Left ruts in yard that are still visible 6 months later. Promised to provide sod for torn up ground, but never did. Load of gravel delivered not spread in an acceptable manner. Company cuts corners at every opportunity. Though the retaining wall is acceptable, I am not satisfied with the experience or the professionalism of the company/owner (Jacob). Jacob underestimated the time for this project, and pressured employees to get finished as they had another job to get to. You might pay more with another company, but you would probably have more satisfactory experience.

Owner was rarely on site. Did not follow owners directions. Did not clean up the site as promised. Owner provided material and was charged tax of $228., on the labor.
Response from Solidscapes, LLC
"By owner she means the homeowner was rarely on site. We did everything asked for in the contract and customer was satisfied the day we left with no disagreements about price or anything."

Poorly finished concrete. Did not fill in after removing forms. Poured two wheelbarrows of concrete into the storm drain when finished.
Response from Solidscapes, LLC
"We asked where to dump the excess concrete and dumped it where the manager told us to. We also asked if they would like for us to install sod and fill in after the concrete forms and were advised they would hire their grounds keeping company to do thoes services."

I fully recommend this company, I had Jacob install a very complex retaining wall which was very critical for my property. He not only was very professional within' his ability to communicate, but the product was outstanding. Jacob made sure I knew what was done for the wall so the drainage was correct, and it lasted a long time. It also looked perfect while he matched the block to my house. I highly reccomend Lake hartwell property management

Very professional within' their ability to not only provide good work, but I had a very complex idea with the paver patio I wanted and they delivered that with 100% satisfaction. They not only made it look good, but they also made sure I knew how long the patio would last, and what extra steps they took to ensure I had the best paver patio. I request this company, and I will be using them for further jobs.
