I found Sootmaster Chimney Sweeps online, and their website made them appear as a local Baton Rouge, LA business. However, they are actually run by Patrick Buell and based in Milton, FL, with a revoked license in Louisiana, according to the LA Secretary of State website. I called them, and a technician came out the following week. He charged for an inspection and quoted $708 for a smoke guard to fix my backdraft issue, requesting half upfront via check, which I paid. The check was cashed in Florida. He promised installation within 1-2 weeks, but I never heard back. I?ve called multiple times but keep getting the runaround. It?s been 4 months with no refund or follow-up call. They have no office in Louisiana, and after reading numerous negative reviews, it seems they are scamming customers in states outside of Florida without being held accountable.

David Eggler and another technician came to our house to replace our existing fireplace. They were prompt and very professional. Once they had the old firebox out they discovered rotten wood. David was not phased he drafted a quoted for the additional materials and labor in just a few minutes. After a 12 hour day my fireplace couldn’t be more beautiful. But mor importantly it was safe to use. Thank you David Eggler with the Chimney company of Destin Florida. Great job!

Scam company ran by con-artists, plain and simple. I hired them to repair a leaking chimney in September of 2020. Since then, it has leaked worse even though they returned to my home on six occasions to patch up their poor excuse for work. Turns out, upon inspection by another company that they actually caused MORE damage to my home than when they started. Over a year of run arounds and a slew of lies, I figured out that they scammed me for $2,300. Do research into this company, theres tons of information out there after you sort through their dozens of phone numbers, social media profiles, and poor reviews where they have done this to others and AVOID them like I should have.

Sootmaster was hired to do a chimney sweep and 21 point inspection. The men that came, one experienced and one a trainee, performed the chimney sweep and found that minimal dust came out of the chimney after their 5-minute sweep. They packed up their bags and were ready to go charging me $249. I asked if they completed the 21-point inspection and they said yes, but they definitely did not. They did not walk around the house, they did not take a ladder off of their van to even inspect the chimney from the roof. Called the company and spoke with their receptionist, Kiana, who was super kind and helpful, but was told that a supervisor would come out in 3 weeks to complete the 21-point inspection at no additional fee. Was looking to have this done sooner than later and not have to wait any longer. Not really happy with the delay of things and the lack of effort during the first visit.

They were prompt and efficient but cost was excessive

The office person for Sootmasters either misquoted a ridiculously high price, or it was actually a ridiculously high price for some of the work. Do not know if that was the job estimator or the office persons high quote. And after checking with a competitor, they were about $255 higher in price quote than a family-owned business competitor. Also, Sootmasters require a deposit for a price quote, whereas their competitor did not. So in hindsight, I should have shopped around.

Job well done, needed a follow up and they came and fixed the issue a.s.a.p.

They have been here three times trying to get their famous chimney cap to work. Third time they just gave up and left wire hanging in the chimney and the cap open. They never called and never came back. Update: After numerous calls they finally came back and fixed it today

We were so happy to get our fireplace restored by your company in Niceville, FL. They did an an excellent job. I mainly wanted to praise Blake and Patrick for the kindness they showed to us as well as their expertise. I requested to have an inspection and repair of the crown around my chimney only. They scheduled me for a full interior/exterior inspection of my home where the chimney is and did not tell me that there was a $135 fee for inspection.

They did not check the chimney in the attic. That is where so many fires start.

Patrick was professional and knowledgeable, very thorough with the inspection. I appreciated his honesty and recommendations about the safety of my very old, unfortunately damaged fireplace. I highly recommended Patrick and his company.

They were quick, efficient, and professional. They are pricey but worth it in the end.
