I contracted this company to replace the vinyl siding on my home. The siding itself came out okay, but the pattern match is about 2 off in the front because diagonal siding should be installed from left to right and they had worked on the two end sections first and then made their way between them. Also, the long pieces of siding on the sides of the house looks wavy in spots, not flat. Other problems with the job was that they cut my phone line, and then buried the cut wires under the new siding, so now I have a phone jack on my kitchen wall that does not work. Trim work was sloppy, they utilized small pieces of cut edging (when there was plenty of full size pieces available) so there are seams where there should not be. Finishing touches messy. They did not caulk around the trim inside the window framing. New trim strips around the garage door are uneven, cut too short and not matched up. Holes in my window screens. Took the outside outlets out and just stuck them back in without securing them, when I unplug something the whole outlet wants to come out, and they threw away the outlet cover and installed the outlet upside down. Had installed trim at the bottom of my back door that left open space on both sides - they fixed it when I showed them, but why should it have been like that in the first place? The last day was a mad dash to get done, they were moving on to the next job. For $22,000, I should be happier with the results.
Response from Company:
I take great pride in my company and workmanship. My customers are extremely important to me and I would never want them to feel dissatisfied with their finished project. Prior to starting your project in May 2021, we discussed some of this along with concerns I had. You never reached out to me in the almost 3 months that your project has been complete to tell me you had concerns or that you are not happy with the finished work. This review is the first I am hearing about it. I would be more than happy to discuss it with you at any time. I would like to address a few things I read in your review. 1) Diagonal siding: this was a concern of mine and I did discuss it with you. I tried to point you in a different direction but ultimately you wanted diagonal siding. As I mentioned to you prior to installation, the front of the house is two different levels from the foundation up and because of this it?s impossible for the siding to match up. 2) Wavy siding: we also discussed this prior to installing. Due to the age of the house, the siding cannot lay completely flat because the walls are not plum. The siding will appear wavy because the siding will follow the contour of the walls. Unfortunately, the only way to fix that is to reframe the walls which is costly. 3) Cut phone line: Had I had the opportunity to come look at it, we could have discussed it and rectify the problem. It?s definitely something I need to see. 4) Trim work (shed): this was something else that we discussed and I explained why there would be seams. The standard size of all aluminum trim work installed on facia boards are 10? x 6? lengths. It?s the standard size the break bends. Example: if your facia board is 14? long, we need to utilize 2 pieces of aluminum, in effect, you?ll have a seam. 5) Finishing touches, caulk, garage door trim, window screens, outlets and anything else: this all falls under the final walk through. We did a final walk through when the job was complete and at no time was any of this mentioned to me. I never would have left the job if you were not happy with the finished work. By no means am I perfect, sometimes things are missed or overlooked and I would absolutely have no problem coming back to make any necessary repairs. None of our jobs are ever rushed and I would never want any of our customers to feel as though their project was not important. I?m always available for questions or concerns and I?m more than happy to discuss this with you. I?ve reach out to you and left a message, hopefully I?ll hear from you soon. All the best, Danny South Shore Builders Corp
