Efficient and thorough.

Al did a great job inspecting a house I am in the process of buying. He arrived early and took his time to do a very thorough inspection. He completed the report the same day and answered my questions about the report in the evening. I highly recommend Al.

Al was there for more than two hours and did a thorough home inspection. The house that we were going to purchase looked good and he was able to look beyond out that and found the things that were really important to us. I will start by saying my first impression of Al was, nice guy well put together. You could tell he was knowledgeable and I believe a retired contractor. As Al inspected the house my wife and I commented on how quick this was relative to the inspector that did our house that we sold. I can't comment on the amount of time there because I don't know for certain so that wouldn't be fair but in my opinion it was very fast. If you asked Al a question he knew the answer but there were a few times my wife and I had to stop and point things out to him that he didn't see. So a few weeks into our house and we've noticed a lot of things not mentioned in the report. First, most of our windows didn't close properly and all of them needed to be replaced (Happy to share pictures upon request) We also realized most of our interior doors don't close properly and needed to be altered. Our thought was, we wish Al would of picked up on this and put it in his report but nothing we can do about it now. Windows will be close to $7500 to replace by the way. This is where we had a real problem. We had our oil company come out and they informed us that we needed to replace the oil tank, there was oil on the outside of the tank and it's leaking. Now Al is not required to inspect the tank however he is required to report any leaks. For the sake of being fair I am waiting on a report coming this week to give me an estimate of how long the leak was there but the initial response from the oil delivery driver was months. I won't say how long because it wouldn't be fair to do so but i will say months and it will cost anywhere from $2000-$3000 to fix. All this being said, we all have days where we overlook things or we are in a rush and we miss something, I get it, happens to me all the time. However here is my real reason for writing this review. I will be as detailed as possible so to be fair. When I first called Al, he was at a job and said he had to go back and look but mentioned right off the bat oil tanks weren't part of an inspection because it can rot from the inside out. I then went back read everything and he was right, however he does need to review and report any leaks. When he called me back he reiterated again, the oil tank is not part of his process but I told him yes but you have to report a leak and then he said there wasn't one when I checked and I told him honestly because you didn't look hard enough and you rushed through everything. He replied ,"Well that's your word against mine". Not, ok let's set up a time to come check it out or maybe I did can you send me a report when you get one so I can look it over, no he said IT'S YOUR WORD AGAINST MINE!!. From that point on I was furious and I've waited 24 hours to write this so I would have a level head. I can not speak for anyone else and I am not qualified to tell you to use Al or not. Very professional, Al took the time to thoroughly inspect the property. He meticulously viewed and documented everything from roof to the basement, from the outside to the inside and noted items I would not have even considered. He answered all my questions while reinforcing that his job was to inspect the dwelling and report on the overall condition, not to assess the value or cost of repairs needed.
