Basement - Remodel
Some of the carpentry work was not professionally finished. The bathroom shower panels were not glued together properly and the caulking around the shower panels is so shoddy, I am scared to use the shower for fear of water seeping behind the panels and into the walls. I may have to tear out the shower and have it rebuilt by another contractor.

Deck or Porch - Build or Replace
While the bid came in under Superior, it was presided over by John Jackson at Jackson Contracting. I don't know their relationship. Superior/Jackson was the only company that bid, and the price seemed right, but the overall experience was poor. The foreman (John Jackson) was courteous and professional - we got a written bid, a receipt for our check, and a commitment for a start date. The project started two days late, and it took three days to complete the work when it was promised in two. The construction was shoddy - the concrete they poured is not level, the deck supports are built from non-treated lumber, and the boards are nailed rather than screwed together (for easy replacement). What's worse, the men on-site to do the work stole hundreds of dollars of tools from our basement and garage (where they didn't even need to be). Finally, one of the sub-contractors came by two days after completion looking to get paid. He trespassed through our whole property looking for the foreman (with whom we met to settle the bill), and then started using racially durogatory terms in reference to me and my wife. Overall, we have a marginally acceptable deck at a low cost, but we're out lots of tools and had to deal with a couple very unpleasant workers in the process.

Major Renovation - Multiple Rooms
This contractor took 1 month to do a job he estimated at 10 days; blew fuses in my kitchen while working and failed to replace the fuse (despite there being a box given to him for such an event) thus my refrigerator was left off for 1 month. It took me 6 hours to clean and 2 weeks to get rid of the smell. His carpenters are incompetent - sheetrock hung with nails instead of screws, they shorted out my electrical outlets and phones and their plastering job was awful. The carpenters made no attempt to finish the joints in the baseboard trim or paste over nailheads, and they didn't bother to stain the baseboard trim per instructions. While the contract specified payment half up front, half upon satisfactory completion, as soon as work commenced, the contractor began asking for full payment. He also didn't supervise his workers - I would stop in after work to check the progress, see a problem, call the contractor, and he would have no idea what had gone on, since he only came out after a problem was reported. The subcontractor who installed our floors did a great job, but this vendor - I would never recommend them. Their prices were reasonable, but it will cost me a lot to get the problems fixed.

Would not use this company again. Should not have used a general contractor for a plumbing job. They are courteous, and called or came by to say the work would not be completed on time. My major gripe is that the subcontractor to whom this project was given threatened me with a lien because he hadn't been paid. This happened the same day the project was completed. I called the general contractor to let him know about this and about the part of the project that broke down again, and have not heard from him since. This was more that 2 weeks ago. WOULD NOT USE THESE PEOPLE AGAIN, NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE ELSE people again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. Also later found project was greatly overpriced.

Waste, Junk, Building Materials and Debris Removal and Hauling
A good job was done of moving the junk from my house. One thing I did not like was the price changed. In the future the person who makes the decision about what the cost would be should come to the jobsite and not send someone else. I was told one price because another person came but when the person who I believe makes most of the decisions came the day the junk was to be removed, I was asked for more money. Since this was a house cleanout and the estate was paying for it, I had to come out of my pocket for the shortage money. In the future they need to get this straight so this type of problem could be avoided.
