About us
Founded in 1917, Sutton and Son Decorating is a fourth-generation family business established by my grandfather, Sydney Charles Sutton, an immigrant from England who settled in Canton, Michigan. Beloved by the community and able to fulfill all requests from exact color matching, faux finishing, and tromp l?oeil, Grandpa brought Old World finishing from his homeland. My father joined him after World War II and the business became Sutton & Son Decorators. The family name transformed into Sutton and Daughter, Inc. in 1982, when Dad and I moved the family business to Arizona. Sydney Sutton?s great-grandson, Brandon, and I brought the legacy full circle this year as Sutton and Son, PLLC, specializing in traditional Old World decorative finishes and antique restoration. At a time when shortcuts are the norm, we observe the traditions of our ancestors. We do not provide outdoor furniture refinishing services.

Furniture Refinish
I never leave reviews. Jill Sutton and her son are skilled, knowledgeable artisans in the genre of furniture refinishing. We entrusted them with our custom imported dining room table for refinishing after I saw what they accomplished on my friend's woven patio chairs. They did not disappoint. The table is exactly how I envisioned it to be done. And the communication between us and Jill was extraordinary. We received texts and photos regularly from them recording their progress, etc. And the charge for the project was way below other estimates. What a find! They are skilled, honest craftsmen.

Super glue was spilled on our $4,000 dining table and then was damaged by glue remover! When we called, we were answered by Jill. She was very kind, helpful, and understanding. Scheduling was a very easy too. They came and did it on site. They did it quick, and they an amazing job, especially for a table thats about 7ft x 7ft. The before and after speaks for itself. Thank you all!

We had a fantastic experience with Sutton & Son. Brandon came to our home to repair our table, and his work was flawless—he’s truly a perfectionist. You’d never know the table had been damaged; it looks brand new again. Jill was also wonderful to work with—she kept us informed, coordinated everything smoothly, and made sure we were happy with the results. I worked with Jill and her son Brandon to repair a new old stock MCM media console. I was initially quoted a competitive price to repair a 2-inch long chip along one edge. Jill and Brandon worked with me to coordinate pickup of the console. I also expressed to them that I would be happy to expand the scope of the repair if they deemed it necessary. One week later, they updated me that, not only was the chip filled with solid walnut, but the entire top was also refinished to correct signs of sun bleaching and other imperfections from wear and tear as a floor display item. Yet again, the price was very competitive, and I am thrilled with the final outcome!

I will definitely use this company again. There is no need to look elsewhere. I sent my job out and they were the first to respond. I said that I needed the project done in 2 weeks and Angi sent back 3. When I spoke to the other 2, both said it would be 4 weeks. Sutton & Son lived up to their promise and it was done in 2 weeks. My conversations with this company was always pleasant. They made me feel special. Brandon refinished my mid-century sideboard and it was so much more than what I was expecting. It is incredibly beautiful. Plus their prices are so reasonable! You will be very satisfied!!

I hired Ms. Sutton in Aug of 2024 and she was wonderful to work with. She gave a very respectable quote and timeline for which the project would be done and was done exactly on the timeline she outlined. She kept me in the loop and when she wasn't sure about a particular aspect of the finish i wanted made sure to ask me to ensure it was done in the way we wished. She was also able to give advice on what to choose for a finish as I wasnt too sure myself what I would need to help keep a Kids furniture easy to maintain and clean after the fact! I do not regret hiring her and I love the complements I received from my family after the dresser was completed!

Jill and her son stripped and refinished an antique Japanese tansu (stacked clothing chest) for me and far exceeded my expectations; they are true artisans!. The craftsmanship was very detailed and precise- with the repairs to some of the wood, customized stain and seal, hardware removal, repair, and reinstallation. They were perfectionists and we would not hesitate to recommend them and we would certainly use them again if ever we needed restoration work on another piece of furniture.
