They were very reasonable in their price for quality work. Tim was very nice and knowledgeable. We made sure to keep his card and I would recommend him to everyone.

I did not have a good experience - and it cost me! When first meeting Tim, it’s easy to see why he gets the business he does. He’s cordial, and seemingly knowledgeable about what he is doing. Especially, with someone like me - that really knew nothing about how a deck is built. The first warning for me came with Tim being constantly late. Some times 1-2 hours late. At a certain point – I treated Tim like the cable company – scheduling a meeting time, but giving him a window of 3-4 hours. While he will call you back – getting a live meeting takes a bit more coordination. My time was valuable – and this should have been my last warning sign. The second warning for me was around the building permit – I asked for one. There was a permit line-item in my invoice (coupled with a structure request). But this permit was NEVER applied for. I later came to know why – the deck I have now is not built to code and has structure flaws making it unsafe. I brought this up to Tim after the deck was built and his answer was based in his history and a guarantee that he will fix any problems if they come up. I would later learn that was not very helpful. Third warning was just in how the deck was built. Some times with scrap wood it seemed. Screws not quite hitting wood. The use of nails where screws should be used. I would say certain things were built solid (and this was substantiated by new contractor). Other things were just not right. From caissons being too far apart for the length of the deck - to simple things like not enough stringers for the stairs. I knew right away there was something off from just how the deck looked and felt – shaky. I remember one particular conversation in which I complained that my smaller steps were not level – Tim’s response was that the ground is not level. Really – but would you build a house crooked if the ground it sits on is not level? Ridiculous. Two years later, my stairs are now splitting and falling apart. Tim says this is based on them sinking into the ground. But shouldn’t that have been accounted for when the deck was built – putting them on cement versus just sitting on my lawn? My deck floor was built with 2 ridiculously large seams going right down the middle and the boards are now starting to pop up making it a visual disaster. Tim came by and dropped off a drill bit for me to screw them back in myself, instead of really assessing the bigger problem, this floor was not built right. I have had countless conversations about this Deck with Tim. He is responsive and answers my phone calls - and will even come over – I do respect that. But to be fair, he stands behind this work even with it clearly flawed. So while he guarantees this deck, it’s difficult to get anything fixed because he doesn’t see the problems that I (and two other contractors) see. While he has offered to put in a caisson under the stairs to help steady them, in the end – I just don’t trust the aesth

Tim was hired to do a remodel of our master suite, including bedroom, bathroom, closet and exercise room. This project included demo, replacing windows and high level finishes. When interviewed, he appeared confident that he was a fit for the job. After giving us an estimate of 6-8 weeks to complete work, we hired him. Shame on us for not checking more references and online sources. Our experience with Tim was nothing short of traumatic. Upon hire, we were promised that he would provide a porta-potty for his subcontractors and we were assured that he would cover and protect our carpeting that would be a high traffic area during construction. After three days of demo and numerous requests we decided to put down plastic sheeting over the carpet on our own because damage had already occurred. After several weeks of work, numerous requests and excuses, he told us that if we wanted a port-potty that we would have to pay for it and that the cost had not been included in the bid. After the first two weeks of work we began to see an alarming pattern of cutting corners, lack of attention to detail and unwillingness to take responsibility for mistakes and damage done to our house. When we approached him about removing the wallpaper that we had wanted removed instead of painting over it (as he did) he refused to remove the wallpaper stating that he knew better, and that wallpaper removal was not in the bid for the remodel. We began receiving change orders with upwards of 10 items on them, many of the items were either never approved, or were supposed to have been included in the original scope. When approached with any questions regarding these items he became very confrontational and defensive, raising his voice many times. This continued and devolved into him telling us that in his opinion " customer is NOT always right." After more than 15 weeks on the job, no end in sight, and Tim becoming increasingly contentious and confrontational we had to fire him from the job. The job was nowhere near done, yet he claimed that it was. We had 4 different sub-contractors come to us claiming that they were never paid in full for the work they did on our home. Tim sent an intent to file a lien and we ended up in a legal battle. The quality of work that we were left with was atrocious. The legal battle was exhausting; we ended up paying the subs directly and paying Tim much more than we owed him because we wanted to avoid taking him to court. And we still had to pull new permits, hire a new contractor, finish the project and attempt to correct the shoddy work that had been done. This was not our first large remodel. The other company we had used for several remodels was not available on our time frame and this is why we ended up with Tim. Upon seeing the recent reviews on this site, it appears that he is capable of deck repair, however, I would not suggest letting Tim inside of your home.

We had several other estimates prior to hiring T. A. Stonerook Custom Homes, Inc. however with Tim being so very responsive to our phone calls and coming out to meet with us several times to review our questions prior to even hiring him on our deck project, we decided Tim was the person we wanted to hire for this project. We were not disappointed. Tim was great to work with, his quality of work and price was very good also. He is hard working, professional, friendly and dedicated to his craft. Love our new decks, stairs, bench, railings! Would definitely hire Tim again. Thanks Tim.

I hired Tim to replace my aging deck and entry porch, including replacing any weathered/rotting wood and installing composite decking. Tim is a nice guy with a professional demeanor. He drives a nice truck and submitted a professional estimate, so I thought I was getting a ‘quality’ contractor instead of an ‘economy’ contractor, and I was pleasantly surprised at his estimate (not the lowest, but lower than I expected). But when I saw the results, I thought, wow, this guy is doing my remodel out of crap and scraps. He’s not the right contractor for complex jobs that need to be professionally done. He installed some warped and damaged boards, re-used compromised materials, and was not good at listening when I pointed this out. He had an excuse for everything. The stairs were slanted, assembly was shoddy, and it looked patched-together in places. He also BLARED conservative talk radio from his truck until neighbors complained to me. I fired him. He asked for a second chance. I told him that he had to use earbuds to listen to radio so it would not annoy the neighbors. I gave him a list of the remaining work to be done and my expectations. He submitted a revised estimate (about $2K more), which I accepted. That was three weeks ago. The work is still not done. Today, a neighbor stopped by to tell me that he is still playing talk radio for the neighborhood to hear (I was at work) and produced the boombox that Tim had left behind. I called another deck contractor to review the progress, and he stated he was 100% sure that it would not pass inspection because there weren’t enough stringers under the stairs (current code requires 4, not 3). The steps are also not uniform – some have 2 composite boards snug against each other, other have wide gaps between them. Some of the risers are too high (or the stringers were not cut evenly), so the steps were shimmed up from below. The whole thing has been ‘fix one problem and create another’. I’m out $4K for a fair amount of work that will need to be re-done and finished. I told Tim to pick up his boombox and tools, and I’m in the process of hiring another contractor. I’m not a happy customer.

Tim is a nice guy. Price is cheap, but unfortunately you get what you pay for. Project management skills are horrible, communication is a struggle and workmanship is poor. He and his subs pay very little attention to detail and cut corners wherever they can. You have to watch them like a hawk and hold them accountable for every mistake and error, or they will try to cover it up and pass it off as if you never notice. Buyer beware if you want your project to look professional and you want it done in a reasonable amount of time, use another contractor. We got ripped off.

Mr. Stonerook stepped in to finish a project which had badly gone awry, and was able to correct the many deficiencies in the structure without demolishing all of it and starting over. He was willing to take on this problematic project when most others declined to attempt it.

Everything about this project was a nightmare. I would come home everyday and find substandard workmanship on anything that was touched. It started with no schedule being provided, no plans to agree upon(deck and kitchen), failed inspections, lack of communication, minimal supervision resulting in rework and still finding items that need to be fixed after completion.
