The person I hired was Richard. It is not his company, he is representing the guy who owns this [work] truck.This is an obvious limit to the background check. But that would not have mattered had Richard been honest and capable. To be fair, maybe he has skills but was sabotaging me for some reason. At first I was impressed because as soon as I put in a I request, he called. He came to look over the frame where I needed an exterior screen door installed. In hindsight I see that he decided he could con me at that time. In the days before he was scheduled to install the screen door he informed me he had spent $60 on necessary supplies. Long story short, $25 was for a tool he wanted to keep and the rest was for stuff he was not going to use on my project. I know because I had to ask for, then demand the receipt he pretended to lose. As for the work, he would not advise me on how to choose a doorknob bc he wanted it to be my choice. I choose the wrong one which necessitates a trip to Walmart once I knew what was required. He put the frame on in such a way that the doorknob lock could not work. He said he would research why this happened and once he had the answer he would return.. I had informed people I could not get in touch with prior to hiring him look at the door and say this was a common issue that a qualified person can fix with ease. Another common problem is the need to switch the doorknob with the deadbolt or else the doorknobs will hit each other and prevent both doors from closing at the same time. I checked the screen door to make sure the deadbolt worked. Only after Richards departure did I discover both the screen door and exterior door could not be closed at the same time bc the doorknobs hit each other. I called Richard, who as you will recall had left me with one out of two locks functional. He was irritated to hear from me after he fled. So now you want the locks switched, he asked, as if I was an unreasonable client. He went on to say, I do not have time to come back today. He was unapologetic and surly. The next day he came by and stood outside my door with his back to me looking over the railing. When I came out and called his name he walked off and minutes later I received a text saying I had not answered the door so he left and maybe he could fix [his mistakes on] the door later in the week. I never heard from him again. I gave him a chance to fix both issues or refund some of my money. He did not respond so I texted him with a rough draft of the review I was going to leave unless he made things right. No answer. He had taken one look at me and decided he did not have to do quality work or give me respect. For whatever reason. He might be very capable if he thinks he will be accountable do if you hire Richard closely supervise him. This way he wont rip you off. On the bright side, a couple if people took pity on me and fixed the door for me. As for Richard, he disgusts me. I am so grateful for this forum bc without an option to leave a review, scammers like Richard would run wild. I am happy to sign my name so Richard will know that the person he thought he could rip off was more resourceful than he judged. A general lesson I learned is that Angies list cannot guarantee the people reviewed are the people who show up. Tangee Lxxxxxx
