Doors (Interior) - Install or Replace
This review is for work attempted on June 22, 2018. I have been sitting on this review for a while, but I have decided to write it after reviewing my notes and completely removing myself from emotion (I also got the work eventually completed myself which helps). I called and asked for a quote to remove an interior pocket door, build out the wall 5 feet and then install a swinging door. I also wanted a new bathroom vanity installed. The price seemed ok and we got something scheduled. Once the 22nd came they showed up and could not remember what we discussed beforehand at the estimate visit. The job was to install a door but yet no door was even brought! Eventually, I decided this person was completely unable to do this job and suggested that they had done no work, except sloppily remove my old door frame, and it would be best if we just forget this. They took photographs of the door frame to close out the job and left. (I learned later that this person was fired from the company, and my issue is not with the person who came to do the work - that is just back story). Later that day I received an invoice for the total amount of the estimate (for removing the door, installing the new one, and installing the vanity). I emailed back asking for a correction in the invoice for what was actually done. After a week I had not heard back and started getting reminder emails to the invoice to which I continually asked for clarification. Eventually, they decided to add on a late fee for not paying. Mind you there were no payment terms laid out on the invoice and no notice of a late fee. At this point, I informed them I would not pay this invoice and no work was done. At this point, I got a very terse email from the owner demanding I pay him but offering no proof that any work was actually completed. I had photos after the worker left (that were submitted by the worker to complete the invoice in their system) and continually asked for him to look at the photos and adjust the invoice if he felt there was any work actually done. Any effort to be rational by my part was met with sheer anger that I had not paid yet - note I was offering to pay, but an adjusted amount which he refused to do. Eventually, he refused to respond to my emails and said his legal counsel would be in touch with me. After a week or so of not hearing from his "legal counsel" I tried to just get that info myself so I could handle this without the business owner, bypassing him for the lawyer. Turns out he has no legal counsel, no lawyer, and used it as a threat (which I called the bluff). During this time I tried to get him on the phone but he uses an outsourced reception company if you try to call him. If you call they say "he is not available" but they send a message over and it is on him to call back. Then I tried to see if there was an office to go to so I could just get it settled. Again: nope. He uses an address associated with a business

Handyman for Multiple Small Projects
The day the work was to be completed the appointment was scheduled for 2:00-2:15. The worker arrived at 4:30. He said he was on another job. No call was received from the Company regarding the late arrival. I requested compensation from the company since I did not even receive a call from the company to inform me the worker was running 2+ hours late.I had to call them, and then never received a call back from the company. I did receive the discount I requested, but I had to request that. The worker had not yet purchased the items to do the job when he arrived at 4:30. He was leaving my home to go purchase the items and agreed to return the following morning. He arrived 15 minutes early; (7:45 a.m.) however, he did not have the supplies to do the job. He stated the employers' credit card was denied when he went to pay. He went back to the store that morning and did not return until around 12:00. (Four hours I waited for him to return to do the work) The worker did call mid way through the morning to say that he was waiting on the employer to do an online order as the credit card was denied again. When he got back he started to do the work. He replaced my kitchen sink. I asked him to check to make sure there were no leaks. He turned the water on and the pipes were leaking. He worked on trying to stop the leak for over 2 hours. When he left at 7:00 p.m., he thought the leak was fixed. I put paper towels down under the pipes and the pipes were still leaking. I informed the worker of the leak via text and he told me to contact Joe (the boss). I emailed customer service informing Joe that his worker was unable to fix the leak and I was contacting a Plumbing Company to fix the issue since his worker couldn't. Since the pipes were not leaking before the job was done the company should be responsible for the plumbing costs. Joe sent this worker back to my house, unannounced, the next day, which was a Saturday., to take pictures. I informed him a plumber needed to be called. I emailed Joe again and told him I was contacting a plumber. I then get an email notification that Joe scheduled a different handy man for Monday. He emailed me and said he would not pay for a contractor. I responded to Joe that if this other worker was not a licensed plumber, I did not trust that he could fix the pipes either. Joe refused to pay to have a plumber called. I would not recommend this company to do any work on my home. The lack of notification for the late arrival, the inability to do the work because the materials could not be purchased due to some credit card issue, the inability to get the leak stopped after hours of trying, and the employer's refusal to pay for a plumber to fix the mess that was created by the worker and one the company should be responsible cost me hours of waiting around for a job to be done, and then a mess the boss is not willing to make right, costing me additional money!

"We appreciate customer comments. But, we disagree 100% with these comments. In the end, the Customer short-paid our Invoice. This was the intent all along. This customer changed the Work List multiple times. We were not hired to do plumbing work and our order reflects that. Her leak problem was existing prior to our involvement. Before there was a single word from her, she tried to negotiate the price down. This person is not rational, plain and simple. This ENTIRE commentary is a BOLD LIE. I hired another Plumber to send out and all she did is send me nasty emails. She just does not want to pay. Just a sad situation. Our Reputation is excellent. Look at the REVIEWS. Not this one from an irrational person. I will happily provide the names of 150 customers for anyone to call for a reference. We have over 1,200 customers in Charlotte. This one customer is just not pleasant."

He was here to fix a fan that fell out of the ceiling, in the meantime, he broke a can light and we are unable to fix, so it is now hanging out of the ceiling like a big eye sore

The man was very nice and installed three dead bolts in under an hour. I thought the bill was a bit high for that hour - $179.00. I bought the deadbolts and Lowes keyed them for me. I would recommend this company to people.

Mr. Joseph Berger of the Handy Tool Belt Company arrived promptly as scheduled to install a large white mantel in our new apartment. He did the project efficiently and expertly. Even though the installation was a little complex, he got the mantel positioned precisely where it should be and secured the mantel to the fireplace wall perfectly. He added a little caulking and finished the job very professionally. The new mantel looks great. Payment to the Handy Tool Belt Company was very easy. We are glad HomeAdvisor recommended The Handy Tool Belt Company.

Drywall - Repair
Yes, I recommend this pro
Overall, the experience was fine. The company followed up quickly, was accessible when I reached out, regardless of whether it was by phone or email, and they completed the work on time. Cons: (1) I was expecting one person who contacted me to do the work, but a different person showed up and I wasn't notified. (2) The quality of the work was average. In some places, my wall is still not smooth. He kept saying he hadn't let the area dry. Then he would have to resand and paint, making the job take longer than it should, had he been patient.
