Booked a job via Thumbtack, they charged a deposit, did not show up. I followed up for weeks afterward to give them the benefit of the doubt: they rescheduled, did not show up. Promised to refund the deposit, did not. Promised to refund the deposit again, never did, and on and on. Seems like they alternate between being a helpful service provider and a scam, as they feel like it.
