"Marty: I am very disappointed that the job went the way it did. The reason that I don't give dates for exterior work, is because exterior work depends on the weather, not on some date I write in a schedule .I have had customers wait as much as 6 weeks because the weather wasn't appropriate. I WILL NOT apply coatings on a substrate the day before or the day after it rains. Also, no lower than 45 degrees daytime or below 35 degrees that night . When the forecast is 40% chance of rain, I book interior work for that day. Many times the weather does not follow the forecast, and the day turns out to be sunny with no rain. Obviously, when the customer notices the beautiful weather, they think why isn't the painter out here. Most of the time, when I book interior work, the customer takes time off from work, therefore I can not call and say its beautiful outside so you will have to tell your employer you will need to reschedule your day off, but I don't know what the weather will actually be until I get up in the morning. As you know, the board that was completely missed was one of the boards that you painted. When I did your estimate you wanted us to paint only what you did not paint. After the two weeks of waiting you called and stated that if I didn't send painters out the following Monday, you would call your attorney. I said regardless I will not be out on Monday because the prediction was for below freezing on that night. I called on that Monday night, and told your wife that regardless of whether you called your attorney or not I would have painters out on Tuesday, which I did. I told you that I wanted to do your touch ups when I had my ladders in the area and you told me that to expedite matters you had a ladder we could use. We did get paint on one of your downspouts and if you would like I would be happy to pay for you to have the downspout replaced, I do apologize for the gangster rap. I hate it myself so I know how you feel, and the employee has been severely reprimanded. I apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you."
