BEWARE of Thiels Home Solution - heres why We originally chose Thiels because we were looking for a reputable company that would provide full service from start to completion of high quality work. We work a lot and were willing to pay a premium to not have to project manage our kitchen upgrade. The work (cabinet doors and laminate, sink, quartz countertop) was scheduled for Jun 7-10, a 3-day job + 1 day for the quartz installation by a partnering company. We were told by the salesman that Theils only uses employees, no sub-contractors. However, the 2 men that arrived were indeed subcontractors. Instead of a Mon-Wed job, they were here well into the evening all week and did not wrap up their work until after 10pm on Friday. While the work was technically completed, the issues werent evident until after we spent days cleaning up the mess left behind. By that time, every laminated surface was bubbling. Additionally, there were finish pieces missing, the valance had a screw extending out the back side, all the laminate edges were sharp enough to scrape/cut our hands during normal use. Seams were rough, baseboard/toe-kick was cut short of one of the cabinets leaving a large gap next to the stove. Doors all swung open very hard, even when gently opening, slamming into the dishwasher, stove, and adjoining cabinets. Some drawers didnt soft-close properly. One cabinet door was too large for the space. We called Thiels and left messages. We called Thiels and left messages scores of times over the next 3 months, rarely reaching someone directly and having to rely on someone to contact us back, which was also rare, especially in the first several weeks. When the countertop was installed on June 25th, the installers did not bring the undermount sink because the work order from Thiels indicated that the sink was on site. It wasnt. We did not have a kitchen sink for 4 full weeks. When a new sink was finally installed on July 23, it was installed incorrectly - it was twisted and not aligned to the space cut out for it. We called several more times to get this resolved and did receive a new sink. The same installer also put the disposal back in and did so haphazardly with the brand name significantly skewed. To note, originally, and upon the previous installation, the disposal brand name was set at the top and centered neatly. When my wife asked about it, he said no one had ever asked him about that before, and then left without fixing. He was regarded as their ** top plumber ** . After several Thiels employees (never the same guy more than once) came to assess and/or resolve the laundry list of issues, one or two at a time, the job was finally completed on September 8th. We are still waiting for a toe-kick strip to replace a poorly cut one that doesnt allow us to join with the existing toe-kick in the room, but otherwise, it is complete. While the quality is now satisfactory, Leaf Home (parent company to Thiels) has been unwilling to agree to a satisfactory monetary adjustment. It cannot be emphasized enough that the amount of time that we had to follow-up on all the issues we had, and the 3 months it took to do a 3 day job, is not worth the premium price that Thiels charges. If we had put the same amount of effort into project managing subcontractors ourselves we could have gotten the same quality for half the price - though, to note, we asked for and have been denied a much lesser discount. Throughout the experience we had one (1) person who genuinely understood what we were dealing with and did everything in her scope to help once she became involved. To the contrary, the operations manager for Thiels is the absolute worst person we have ever had to try to work with. His condescending attitude and superiority complex (literally told us that he was a busy guy, as if we were not worth his time...
