We started on a large remodeling journey for the first time and Brian Tilley felt like a trustworthy choice. But sadly, our trust was misplaced right off the bat. He drew us in by quoting a surprisingly low price, something we figured out later, is a common trick in the game. The first alarm should have rung when he demanded upfront 40% of the total cost, claiming it for buying initial supplies. Instead, he went off the grid for two full months. Looking back, it was a huge oversight on our part to trust him so blindly. With the project just off the ground, we found ourselves drowning in a sea of change orders, hugely inflating the quoted cost, ending up almost three times. He pointed fingers at us for extravagant upgrades, which was totally untrue. Yes, we did pay for a handful of upgrades, but that was from our own pockets. Moreover, he overlooked mentioning that the contract necessitated submitting change orders even before implementing changes - something he conveniently ignored. Giving in to his threats, we paid even these exorbitant change order fees. Then came another bizarre change order, declaring that he wasnâ t covering numerous costs previously promised. Tired, we paid him, just to see the project end. However, the so-called 'final' change order was not the last; he appeared once again with yet another one, adding that he wouldn't be paying for previously agreed expenses. When we asked him about this he showed disrespect to my wife and threatened to block official city approval. Our interaction with him didn't end with us moving back into our home. He delivered a plumbing disaster, wrapped in dishonesty. We had previously faced problems with the sewer system and wanted a complete replacement. Brian, agreed and we settled on a few plumbing companies. But suddenly, he decided to handle it entirely himself. Despite our reservations, he affirmed his capacity to do a perfect job, promising that he'll be there if troubles arise. He even signed in our contract that he'd connect the new line to the city one. Barely a few months into this house, we faced a major sewer back-up. His reasoning? One of our kids flushed a toyâ all very hard to believe given our 15 years experience with kids in our house. Another sewer backup a few weeks later confirmed our doubt. A plumber's camera revealed that the new line did not stretch till the city's, as promised. The old pipe was still intact for the last 20 feet and had collapsed at the junction of the new-to-old pipe connection. Though he admitted to it, he neither showed remorse nor did he own up to the huge repair cost, exceeding $10,000. To wrap it up, we were left for the most part with a nicely renovated home yet a disturbing experience with Brian, stained by his dishonesty and harsh treatment.
