We needed to add a second bathroom on the first floor of our 1870 Victorian and had to take the necessary space from our wrap around porch on the side portion in order to do it. This meant it would be a limited space and we would be keeping the roof but everything else would be new - the architectural design, complete structural work, excavation, masonry, drywall, insulation, plumbing, heating, electric, tiling, interior painting, full size casement window to match the rest of the house, cedar clapboard to match the house exterior, and moving and rebuilding the side porch stairway for driveway access to the house and replacing the exterior gingerbread trim and banisters. We wanted a traditional looking Victorian bathroom (with a shower instead of a bathtub) using the traditional black and white color scheme with subway tile and marble floors that would have the same feel as the rest of the house style. This meant hunting for an appropriate porcelain pedestal sink, chrome fixtures and woodwork that would go with the other woodwork in the house and appropriate to the period. Tom Madsen worked with us and his suppliers on getting exactly what we wanted. He was responsive to our requests and whatever needed to be done was immediately handled. Tom, John, and the skilled professionals he selected for his crew were all, without fail, perfectionists in their own right taking pride in everything they did. Tom was on top of everything. He personally checked the progress regularly and updated us at every point about what had been done, what would be done next, and when it would happen. We did nothing except make decisions about what we wanted. He was open to using some things that we previously had on hand which reduced the overall cost for us. Tom and his crew handled everything beautifully. We are so very happy with the renovation and the testament to their work is that our new, second bathroom looks as though it is original to the house. It is far more open and spacious than we anticipated given the space limitations. It's such a lovely bathroom that, from time to time, I find myself just walking in there to admire it. This was, without exaggeration, the easiest renovation we have ever done and it was a pleasure working with such professionals. We would not hesitate to use Tom Madsen LLC for future projects and definitely feel confident about recommending them to anyone else.

Extremely happy and pleased with the overall project. Work involved new siding (combo Hardy Plank and vinyl) and new windows (Pella). The initial estimate was thorough and quite reasonable. Work progressed steadily. The crew was professional, friendly and helpful, often performing extras at no charge. As with any project, we wanted some minor changes during the course of work. I am happy to report that pricing remained very reasonable, and all desired changes were successfully accommodated. Tom Madsen directly provided project oversight to keep work on point, with an acute attention to detail. The final completed project has totally transformed the look of our house, and we couldn't be happier. Our project truly was a great example of value gained being worth more than the money spent. Tom Madsen and crew exceeded our expectations, and I would readily recommend them to anyone considering home renovations, new construction, or upgrades.

This construction crew is the best kept secret in Sussex County. They have been in business 30 years and we have lived here the same amount of time but never heard of them. This is probably due to the fact they get most of their jobs through “word of mouth” and that alone is a testament to the quality of their work. We were lucky enough to come across them at the Sussex County Fair and were impressed with the quality of their windows. Over a 3 month period, we had them install 20 new windows (not replacement), window trimming, siding, 3 exterior and 2 interior doors, garage doors, insulation, sheetrock, roof repair, french drains, masonry, plumbing, driveway and electrical work. Their professionalism was apparent from the start. Tom Madsen gave us an itemized contract with estimates for the various jobs to be done. The estimates were never exceeded and we were able to stay within our budget. Up front, a very reasonable down payment was requested and an itemized invoice was sent after each major project was completed. It was obvious from the start that Madsen’s crew were extremely skilled at their work as they were challenged with some very difficult tasks, and we were surprised at how efficiently and effectively they completed them. Often, they went above and beyond the call of duty when they came across work that the original builder had done poorly and they corrected it. They showed up on time every day and if they were going to be late (which only happened 2 times) they called to let us know. When the weather was poor, work was performed on the porch or in the house. Out of 3 months, they only missed a 5 days - 1 due to extremely bad weather and 4 for a prior commitment of which we were given ample notice before they began our renovations. Also, they were very friendly and easy to be around and we felt comfortable with them from the start. Finally, Tom Madsen showed up regularly to make sure we were satisfied with the products as well as the work and made sure to give us the warranties on all the products. We were also very pleased with the subcontractors he chose to do the plumbing, masonry, trimming and electrical work as they were all extremely skilled at their job. Having so much work done on your house at one time could have been cause for great stress, but this crew actually made it enjoyable and pleasant. A few years have passed since our renovations were completed and we still can’t say enough good things about this company and we would definitely use them again!
