Project: Hire a Handyman
He can do a good job but it costs a fortune because he is so slow, I negotiated a job bid instead of an hourly rate, but then his work seemed to get sloppy.
Response by Tom The Handyman- Unlicensed Contractor: This job was to prime and paint approx. 200 linear feet of facia and three decorated gable ends. Homewyse online estimator gave a low quote of $2.61/linear foot or approx. $550.00. I bid $250 to please my customer. After 10 hours I had finished 40% of the job keeping within Homewyse's estimation. At the end of the day I inspected my work. There was 100% coverage with a few runs in the primer. These runs are best left to dry and cut flush while top coating. There was no paint on walls, windows, landscaping or pathways. As this critique came before my finishing to job I did not charge her for my time and we have parted ways.

  1. Verify Trade License
HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license.
  2. Verify Insurance
As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services.

  4. Criminal Records Search
HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business.
  5. Sex Offender Search
We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located.
  6. Bankruptcy Search

  9. Identity Verification (SSN)
HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities.
  10. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup)
