I recently purchased an old home built in 1750 in the Hudson Valley. The home was in need of some immediate help. I hired Toolbox Construction to assist me with my first project. We started with a 5 1/2â x 7â bathroom because it was old, cluttered and moldy. John Hines and his crew, completed the demolition and then created a bathroom that looked like it was always part of this old house. From the carpentry, to drywall, tiling, plumbing and heated floor. The result was an excellent Remodeling job. I would highly recommend John Hines and his company.

I hired Toolbox Construction to replace my front and back porches and repair an area of my foundation. JP and his crew did an outstanding job! They showed up when they said they would and completed the job in two days. Both porches were in a bit of disrepair and were replaced with much improved and proper structures which are sturdier, safer and certainly add value to my home. They are professional and neat and their work is done with considerable attention to detail. They listened to my concerns and suggestions and explained the job in detail both before and after completion. JP told me straight up if something was not feasible and would just be a waste of my money. That's an honest contractor! I highly recommend Toolbox Construction and plan to hire them again for further repairs.

I had an excellent experience with Toolbox Construction in February 2021. I engaged the company to paint several large, complicated rooms/hallways in my home and to change some chandeliers and light fixtures. After reaching out to several other companies in the area, I chose Toolbox for the reasonable pricing, as well as a very positive impression I had of the owner, John Hines, who strikes one as a man of integrity that really knows his stuff. The team was highly professional, arriving on time each day and cleaning up after themselves before leaving in the afternoon. The work was completed during the allotted time and there were no hidden fees or costs above the estimate. The painting was also beautifully done, I have been getting compliments on it since completion. It was a pleasure and a relief to find such a great contractor after moving in recently to the area. I am already planning to engage them again for additional work in the spring and expect to be using them for years to come.

Toolbox Construction did an absolutely fantastic job. We purchased our home a little over a year ago and in our inspection report, there was a small foundation issue in an area of our basement, in a tiny little crawlspace. We had actually called John to get an estimate prior to purchase and he worked with us to ensure that we got a credit from the sellers to fix the foundation wall at a later point. A little over a year later, we spoke with John again and him and his team came to the house to do the repair right after a snow storm! His team was professional, courteous, communicative, and even vacuumed up after they were finished each day. We appreciated their attention to detail and how well they completed the work. After they finished up with the project, I walked downstairs to take a peek and they had actually built and installed a little door leading to the crawl space! Prior to their work, we had just drilled a piece of plywood into the concrete. The little door was such a nice surprise and an extra we didn't expect and that they didn't have to do. If we need any work done in the future, we will definitely be hiring Toolbox Construction again!

A little backstory will help to explain why I am delighted to leave a glowing review for John and his crew at Toolbox Construction. This summer has been a real learning experience when it comes to finding and working with contractors. Toolbox was a pleasant exception to the general lack of professionalism I encountered. At the end of March 2018 my area was hit by a macro burst, and though I didn’t get the worst of the storm there was still damage to my roof when a large tree blew over onto the house. I called several different contactors and only Toolbox got back to me. John was prompt with his estimate, which detailed all aspects of the repair. During the interim while waiting for the repairs John was able to come by and patched up the roof until it could be repaired. This meant so much to me since I am a single mom, and didn’t know anyone in the area who could help me tarp my roof. On the day work was to begin his crew was prompt, polite, and respectful. Right away I saw the quality of their work and was relieved that the roof was in good hands. His crew even left my yard cleaner than when they got there. They put all the fencing back up and were extra careful to make sure no roofing nails were left on the driveway. I will definitely call on them again when I need work done.

John was great to work with. He came right away to discuss the job (install LVL beams and support columns in basement) and provided a quote soon after. He and his crew arrived on time each day and completed the job in a timely fashion. I was more than happy with the work and I would recommend Toolbox Construction in the future.

We had a lengthy list of work items to be completed at our home in a timely manner in order to market it this Fall. John Hines and his team completed the work with a sense of urgency and expert craftsmanship. No request was too small - they respected us and clearly understood our needs. Here is just a sample of the various repairs completed: installed new double-hung window in bedroom, replaced screen in slider door, installed new pivot shower door, light sconce and other bathroom hardware, installed concrete slab under exterior stairs to deck, reinforced interior staircase newels and base spindles, repaired exterior aluminum fascia, tar exterior pipe boot, caulk and paint sections of crown molding and other areas in various rooms. I hired Toolbox Construction to remodel my kitchen island for a new appliance install. John made sure that the finished product was up to Toolbox standards. John and his workers made sure to give me feedback on what was going on with the work they were doing. They let me know about the different types of fencing in store as well as what they could make themselves and the difference in price. I had them build a fence that they suggested and I am very happy with it. I have even gotten compliments from strangers.

We hired Toolbox to do the structural work for our open concept kitchen. I have to say, I have never dealt with a more professional and prompt crew. John was able to squeeze our job in between his other jobs - which we greatly appreciated. And when they say they're showing up at 8 - they show up at 8. Which is small - and expected - but significant considering how most contractors tend to work. His crew is great, clean and courteous. They made sure to keep concrete dust contained and to give us fair warning when things would be loud for a while. I work from home, so that was invaluable. They estimated 4 days to do the job but came in and knocked it out in 3. So, there's that. Without hesitation I would hire them again to do any work that I cannot handle myself. And i am sure that we will.

John Hines and his crew are the best construction crew I have ever hired ! They are organized, friendly, clean, respectful and their skills are excellent. I didn't hire Toolbox Construction to repair my deck fence because they were unavailable in the needed time frame, but I did hire them to do 3 other repairs I needed that were not an immediate need. They repaired siding and trim on my shed, rebuilt a gate, and replaced molding around 4 windows that had been improperly done by another contractor. They did an excellent professional job on all 3 repairs and the work was completed in a little over a day. I would definitely hire Toolbox Construction on future projects.

John and his team rebuilt the roof and built-in gutter on the front porch of my 1890's farmhouse. We wanted the job to look appropriate for the age of the house , and they exceeded our expectations. John is exceptional, period! I had a very complicated roofing issue that needed a real problem solver to fix it. I learned quickly that John has an Engineering Degree and knew that he was the guy for the job. I have since used him for 3 additional projects at my home. He shows up on time, his crew is friendly, they are all very respectful of my family, my privacy and my home. John is the only person I will hire going forward for anything I need. his pricing is very reasonable. I've used him for big and small jobs. Most of all, he's highly knowledgeable and he shows up every time unlike others that I've used. John either answers my calls on the first try or calls me back the same day within hours.
