Install or Repair Door or Window Screens

Jay was quick to respond to my request, called me the next day to get more information. Others didn't even respond. I wanted a screen door installed from my garage to my house and it wasn't as easy a job as either of us had anticipated. Jay had to go to Home Depot three times in order to find a door that would work. He was finally able to find one and installed it on a Sunday, which I didn't expect. He was polite, patient and PROMPT, which is important to me, having waited hours for repairmen in the past. I would definitely hire him again.

Hire a Handyman

Jay did an outstanding job helping out at my 95 yr old grandmotherâ s mobile home. I needed someone asap to install a new toilet and repair an outside stair railing. Jay was the only handyman available the 4th of July weekend. He also installed a new ceiling fan/light the same day.. we are having Jay back to replace some linoleum, install a new garbage disposal and to continue the wonderful work he does! Trustworthy, reliable and charges a very fair rate.. I highly recommend Jay and his company!!

Repair a Deck or Porch

My Deck was built in 1993 . it was wobbling , dirty and falling apart. Jay did an excellent job saving it .He replaced the stairs , Built a better support under them. He tighten and added new screws where needed . He sanded ,power wash and stain. The deck looks great and should last another 15 years easy. It was done at a fair and reasonable price. I highly recommend Top Notch customs Handyman Service. Jay was always on time . I will use them again for other projects. Thank you Jay for the great job on my Deck

We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
