Unique Masonry

Very polite and friendly, but a terrible workmanship. He installed tiles into our kitchen floor. I purchased the tiles, grout and other materials from Lowes. Most tiles are uneven with the others and two tiles are cracked. I now have to have to entire thing redone. He installed everything in April 2025. By now, September 2025, the whole floor is a mess.

Unfortunately I can only agree with the other negative reviews on this site. I hired James Samuel / Unique Masonry to install an 1,100 sq ft concrete patio and it was a disappointment and very difficult from the beginning. After the first day he told me it would cost more than quoted. Then the whole process of pouring the cement was flawed and I had to convince him that it was completely unacceptable and he would have to fix it. He seemed to have no idea about how to pour a cement patio. We had checked his references but it was for stone patios and walkways, but he assured us that he knew how to do concrete as well. He started the work in June and it took him until September to finish (he originally stated that it would take 2 weeks). In October there were already cracks. In April we had an independent assessment done and they said that it had to be completely ripped out and redone. James admitted that he had made mistakes, but said he could not fix it without us paying more money. We refused, since he had given us a 12 year warranty. I can only recommend that you do not engage with him or his business. It has been a complete disappointment and a huge loss of money.

This company is a scam. Save your money and do not book anything with this company. It is just a pure scam. We had a list of projects that we need to be done. We hired him to build some stairs cases And some landscaping. The total price was ~~$40k. We gave him a large deposit of $15k. Trust me this is what he did. I can not believe it. One day he just stop working. It was a question for him to apply for the permit. He never did and for almost 2 months he ask us for the blueprint. I can not believe it with my eye. Please save your money and do not fall behind whatever he has to say. Do not HIRE I am planning to sue his company.

RUN AWAY NOW AS FAST AND FAR FROM THIS GUY AS YOU CAN. I am currently in the court system with a lawsuit against James. He messed up the pouring of concrete in my basement and refuses to refund my money. More damage may have been done which will need further investigation as his horrible work is removed to be repaired. I gave him ample time to repair the work, but always came up with excuses of why he could not make it. Basically taking other jobs. Now my family is dealing with a nightmare.

DO NOT HIRE! Hired James from unique masonry for a garage renovation. He did his evaluation as a licensed general contractor of the structure and made his recommendations for repairs. After paying him a large down payment he proceeded to demo and get framing subcontractors who did not know what they were doing nor did he plan for creating necessary foundation support before building a structure on top of a deteriorating 1st level. After getting shut down day by the building department for not having proper permits and dangerous building practices. I personally had to apply and get permits and we had to take the whole structure down. Still willing to give the contractor an opportunity to remedy and he promised to repay some monies we started back on the project; only to realize he nor his contractors knew the building code to be able to remedy the job properly. After months of wasted time and money, I had to hire another contractor to do the job. James stopped returning my calls and has not repaid the monies he promised. I think James is well intentioned, but that did not help me for the job or my financial.

James is a true professional. He has done all sorts of masonry for us - rebuilt our patio, designed and installed hardscaping, designed our front walk and built a fire pit. I highly recommend him.

Mr. Samuel got in touch with me quickly, offered a professional and reasonable quote, and did the requested work in a short period of time. He, unlike others that bid, offered but did not push extras on us that the job did not warrant, and so from the original concrete demo and remake of the back outside stairs, we decided to have him refinish the front steps as well. They were neat, professional, polite, and we would strongly recommend Unique Masonry.

James did a great job on our driveway. He was fast and paid attention to detail. We will be in touch with him in the spring time for more concrete work in the yard.

James and his crew were very harding working and professional. Any questions we had, James had an answer. He was able to take on a task that no one wanted to do. And he did it at a rate that was affordable. I highly recommend unique masonry!

The workers were very considerate and did their work conscientiously and well. I was given several options I had not considered. The weather required several postponements but when they started the work it was done quickly and satisfactorily. I would hire them again.

Responded right away and provided different options for approaching the job. He actually recommended the smaller (less expensive) approach and had his crew at my house the next day to complete. Would absolutely use again.
