We hired Vi-A Cleaning through Angi for a full move-in cleaning of a vacant home. Before the service, the company performed an in-person consultation the day before on the 3rd, and advised that a home of this size would require at least three cleaners. We agreed to the quoted price based on that representation and the quality of work they said they would provide. However, on the day of service, only two cleaners arrived, and they worked from the morning until late evening. They appeared overwhelmed, overworked and rushed throughout the whole job.
At approximately 8:38 PM, we were told the cleaners were ready for a final walkthrough. When Lana (my wife) arrived at the property, the cleaners were still finishing and rushing to leave. No actual room-by-room walkthrough was conducted, no completed inspection occurred, and no acceptance of the work was given. They were waiting by the door and rushed to leave right when she arrived since they were exhausted and it was very late. The home was also not properly cleaned. Floors, windows, window sills, and multiple areas were still visibly dirty, with streaks, water marks, and even dirt left behind.
The following early morning, when we returned to the vacant property to inspect it in daylight, we discovered serious damage. The home s alarms were going off, and we found that a second-floor toilet tank was cracked from impact that was done to it and the bathroom had flooded. Water had migrated through the upstairs floor into the first-floor ceiling and walls below. There were water-filled ceiling bubbles, moisture damage, wet materials, and visible damage affecting both floors. We also found multiple window screens bent or improperly reinstalled. In the daylight, we could also properly see that the floors were still extremely dirty and other parts of the house were not properly cleaned.
We immediately contacted professionals for emergency water mitigation to prevent further damage, mold, and deterioration of the home. This was especially urgent because we are scheduled to move into this property on this Friday due to our lease ending soon at our current home. Since the damage was discovered, dehumidifiers and drying equipment have been running inside the property as part of the mitigation process 24/7. The water mitigation team conducted an official inspection using professional equipment and provided a written report documenting the damage. We were also verbally advised that the total mitigation and repair costs may exceed $20,000 based on the extent of the water intrusion.
After we reported the issues, Vi-A Cleaning stated that no refund or re-cleaning would be provided because they claimed a final walkthrough had been completed and no issues were raised at that time. However, that is not accurate. No actual final walkthrough occurred. When Lana arrived around 8:38 PM, the cleaners were still finishing, exhausted, and rushing to leave. No one walked through the home room-by-room, no completed inspection took place, and no acceptance of the work was given. We also do not see anything in the signed agreement stating that an alleged walkthrough waives claims for incomplete work, re-cleaning, refunds, or property damage.
We contacted Vi-A Cleaning multiple times and provided the mitigation report, but they have not provided their insurance information or claim details and have not responded since June 8.
