"I am Mitch Blinco, the owner and builder of Villa Nova Builders. We have been in business in the Austin area for 19 years. I graduated with honors from Texas A&M University in 1986 with a degree in Building Construction. We take pride in what we do and strive to make the home building process a positive experience for all our homeowners. We have never had a situation like this happen before. I need to make one thing clear. This homeowner owes Villa Nova Builders $124,741.13 not including the change orders that VNB gave to them. This seems to be the classic and a common situation of spouses not communicating with each other. These homeowners were notorious for playing the Good Cop/Bad Cop scenario. The wife would ask us to get a price for a change to the original plans referred to as a change order. We would get her a price and she would approve it. Villa Nova Builders would do the approved work and then when her husband, who oversaw the financial side of it, would refuse to pay for the changes or he would try to split the change orders 50/50 with us. The wife would then claim she didn't know she had to pay for the change orders. As far as the $17,000 for the roof deposit, Villa Nova Builders cut the check on June 6, 2018 check #12127 but, the roofing contractor refused to accept the check. He later sent us a letter stating that they would not do the roof on this house due to the wife's indecisiveness, multiple changes in scope and her rude demeanor in general. The reason for the delays was simple. The homeowner would consistently leave town without paying the subcontractors so they wouldn't come back until they got paid, the homeowner would refuse to pay for the change orders so the subcontractors would not come back at all and we would have to bring in new subcontractors and the homeowners had 179 change orders they requested which severely slowed down the project. This is an unfortunate situation and we hope to have it resolved soon. We have set new company policies in place to avoid this ever happening in the future."
