Deck or Porch
I have continued to contact Shane Walsh to pick up the garbage from his deck he did. He agreed to do this but has never shown up to do so and now he is threatening via texts that I am harassing him and wishes to bring legal action against st me for slander, when all Im trying to do is get his material cleaned up as promised. He is also verbally threatening with his foul language against my neighbor.

I would never hire Shane again! We hired Shane to build an enclosed porch. Shane and his crew took a three-week job, at most, and turned it into a 12-week job. Most of the time he or his crew were not here, and if they were it was for 2 to 4 hours only. They messed up installing the roof ,which had to be replaced correctly by a roofing contractor. We still have leaks coming in to the enclosed porch as he did not install any waterproof membrane or flashing where the siding contacts the existing roof. He just squirted about half a tube of caulking in the gap. The windows he installed also leak since he or his crew did not seal or caulk the tops of the windows or doors. We had to clean up after him and his crew left every day they worked, as well as the dog they brought with them to work. After the contract was finished I spent nearly a week with a magnet picking up nails, screws, and other assorted metal pieces form my back yard and around the build site. Never Again Do not Waste Your Money On This Guy!!! Find somebody else.
Response from Walsh Construction
"As a result of the verbal attacks and physical threats to the crew members and sub contractors involved with the project it was very difficult to keep people on the job site. To my knowledge there was only one dog ever on the site, a service dog belonging to Shane's 80 year old mother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. No one was ever notified of a roof leak and when the roofing company returned to pick up the scrap material and excess nails that unfortunately are a result of any shingle removal project, they were told by the property owner it was already taken care of and Walsh construction deducted the amount from the project total. A total that includes numerous changes and additional items that were never paid for. We support and at times must make the decision to keep our valued employees from working in harsh conditions as a result of any client. The verbal attacks were not only directed at construction workers but neighbors as well."

Horrific experience and would advise anyone if you do have this company do your project, to make sure you have everything in writing. He will promise you the moon and then give you a million excuses why he and his crew cannot come and do the work they were paid to do. They were fired as I could no longer put up with the outlandish excuses that were given for not showing up to work.
Response from Walsh Construction
"Walsh construction has over 30 years in the building industry and has been working in the harsh elements of South Dakota winters since then. In all of those years we have never ran across a single client who would bundle up in warm clothes to simply stand over the top of our crew and berate them for hours on end. The concrete for this customer was done as a favor due to the fact he had a disagreement with the previous contractor and in weather conditions that most would have not attempted. Due to the cold temperatures the concrete finishers stayed until 2am using flashlights and head lamps to see after this man shut off the lighting to the project to ensure a quality finished product. This was done before the ground froze and would have made the addition impossible to be built until the spring thaw. The actual building project was scheduled for after the first of the year. By the middle of December we started getting phone calls from the customer demanding that we start immediately and when provided with a recording of the initial conversation threw what could be only described as a tantrum filled with foul language. We were more than happy to give him the opportunity to hire someone else. Which he clearly was not able to do, as of the middle of April. Mr Steerman has a disregard for others expertise as well as unrealistic expectations from anyone born and raised in Western South Dakota. Not many are going to take name calling and verbally offensive comments as well as the Walsh Construction did by simply walking away."

We highly recommend Shane! He and his crew have tremendous work ethic; they were always working! They really were focused on the work while at my home. Also, we were impressed that they were very conscientious about detail.
