    Hi there I am sorry.

0.50 Amy K. Glen Spey, NY

Woodchips has a sordid history of demanding money that is not owed from homeowners they have contracted with and then putting liens on their property. (Go to the NY state court website and search.) Woodchips did this to me, after demanding all the money for a completed job when in fact the job was far from complete (railing on the stairs missing, no platform at the bottom of the steps, where there was a huge gap, Kitchen improvements, which were part of the project, no where near finished). The owner, Richard Spoto had all sorts of people calling me and harassing me for the money I allegedly owed him after Woodchips walked off the job in November 2018. This included a call from a someone posing as a debt collector (in fact the caller had earlier been charged with grand larceny and forgery), threatening to come to my house on Christmas Eve to get money from me. I am 73 years old and live alone. I was so frightened that I called the police. Stay away from Rich Spoto and Woodchips.

    Response from Company:

Hi Everyone! This is a lie, she refused to pay for her job per contract, all the work was fine, and she thought she could change her payment terms. Her home is now lined and it is moving into foreclosure, so she is mad she didn't get away with ripping us off for around $5000.00. She was served this week. She thinks because she is 73 it giver her the right to rip people off. Our reviews and reputations speak for themselves. Yes please check the state website, we always pursue liars. This is all documented thoroughly. Anyone who would like to see her lies, contact me. We are pursuing criminal action against her as well for services. The entire review is full of lies and I'm actually glad she posted this because we will now expand her lawsuit to defamation of character.

Where do I start, Rich Spoto was like a brother we had not seen in a long time. He was soooooooooooo nice and explained everything in detail to us. He took on our project, even though it was not a HUGE project. Everyone else that Home Advisor gave me, either did not call back, once I told them what we wanted done, or they said, this is not what they do. Rich & his Team were AMAZING, and we were so pleased they accepted our project. The Team excavated all the brush, and planted premium bluegrass seed, now we have a beautiful lawn. Rich, God Bless you for doing this for us, we are so grateful. By the way, he is so reasonable. hire him, he will NOT disappoint you. Patrick & Renee

    4.5 Carlos A. Yonkers, NY

Rich was very informative with all my landscape and excavation questions. He was knowledgeable in all aspects of home ownership, very easy and friendly to talk to. He was not at all pushy in obtaining my business and actually gave me several ways to go about to obtain my excavation goals. Definitely the best experience I've had so far with using Home Advisor.

    5.0 Mitch S. Bloomingburg, NY

I hired Woodchips construction for a demolition job on two homes in Orange County. When first meeting Rich, it quickly became clear to me that he was an extremely knowledgeable professional .He was not pushy and explained all of my options in an easy to understand way. He is personable and all my questions were fully answered. He is neither arrogant nor condescending. The verbal price I was quoted was fair and did not change when we signed contracts. At the completion of the job there were no surprise extras. From start to finish he kept me updated and was the liaison between the local building inspector and the environmental company that was required to complete the jobs. This took enormous pressure off of me and my family. While there are other knowledgeable contractors out there, it is hard to find one that you know in your heart that they are both honest and competent. Rich and Woodchips Construction is clearly both. When I called his office I talked with Eileen and she was also very professional and friendly. Any messages I left for Rich were returned promptly. Thank you Rich and Eileen for making this as easy as possible. I will not hesitate to hire or recommend Woodchips Construction. Sincerely, Mitch Sanders

5.0 Gail S. Sandy Hook, CT

I hired Rich to do some work that I wanted done to my home. He and Mike Sr were wonderful to work with from start to finish. They were both on site and available to answer all of my questions. When Larry came to install the insulation, he was professional, explained the process to me clearly and it was a seamless experience! I will be hiring Woodchips in the future...they came in on budget, on schedule, and my home is absolutely stunning!!! My only regret is that I did not call them sooner!

We are a not for profit organization that raised the money for this job through donations and grants. We put the job out to bid and chose this company even though they were not the lowest bidder. We asked to see previous completed jobs, and were shown three. Later we found out our job was subbed out to another contractor who never touched the jobs we were shown. The owner never checked on our job nor did he return calls when we complained how horrible the job looked. He said he would come back and complete the job in the spring but never did. To date he has not returned emails or phone calls.

    Response from Company:

This isnt even a Home advisor customer, this was a historical renovation on a synagogue. This customer was using his final payment as leverage to extort more work out of us, for free and we refuse to let that happen. The historical architect on the job is very pleased. Our ratings speak for themselves, this customer is just a dishonest, selfish person.

    A great professional organization.

They are fast, friendly and have gone above and beyond expectation. I would give them 10 star rating if I could!

I needed to get my deceased Mom's trailer demo'd and removed from a lot in N.Y. state. I live in South Carolina. Howeve fromr my first contact with Rich Spoto, the owner of Woodchips Construction, this process was possitively effortless for me . He retreived the necessory permits and contacted the building inspector for me. Not only was the job done completely to my satisfaction, al was completed within a 48 hour timeline complete with emailed photos of the finished site.
