Fridge, Freezer or Ice Maker Repair or Service
Our journey started on 9/10/2021 with a service call to repair the microwave on our combo microwave/oven unit. We were told we needed a new magnetron. This seemed legitimate as we had done some research and found that the magnetron was the most likely issue. It was also recommended that we replace the transformer. The total cost for parts was $840 which we paid using our credit card. Fast forward? After numerous calls and conversations with John (95% of which I had to initiate), one (1) no show, a service call where the part was defective out of the box before installation, another service call where the part was incorrect for the unit (long story)), a reorder for the correct part (shipping, shipped, still on the truck or maybe in a ravine in Alabama. At least these are the stories I received from John), we finally requested a refund. John called me on 12/1/2021 and stated that the refund had been approved by Dakota and that it would process on Friday (12/3/2021). Great! Well, we did not receive it, so I called again on 12/20/2021. John told me it had not been processed in the system, that it usually processes on a Friday, so he did not know what was going on. He stated he could cancel it and start over. I contemplated having him do this, but I told him to leave it alone and see if it actually goes through. I told him I would call back on Friday, 12/24/2021 if I did not receive it, after confirming they would be open. He said he would be there. I called on the 24th, but no answer. So I called back on 12/28/2021 and was told the refund had been canceled in the system and needed to be reprocessed after approval by Dakota. John told me he would call me by the end of the day with a status after speaking with Dakota. John could not do anything without running it past Dakota. 1/5/2022 - finally got John on the phone again. He says he no longer works for the company, and I am still out $840.

Dakota Wright is a con man. He casually diagnosed my washing machine as needing a pump and a water valve. He supposedly ordered the parts. He charged me $189.92 and never returned to this day. That was 3 weeks ago. John who always answered the phone is just as bad as Dakota. He blamed the no shows all on Dakota. Neither one would ever return my calls. I asked for my money back and now all my calls go to Dakota who nevers returns them.

I would not recommend wasting your time or money by calling Dakota at Wrights Appliance. I called and scheduled an apt because my refrigerator was not cooling (It was at about 50) and there was ice in the bottom tray. Dakota called before he arrived and asked a few questions. I clearly told him there was ice in back of the frig and the running temp was about 50. He said he was concerned it would be a very costly repair but that he could come out and do a software update for $75 (in addition to the service charge of $95.68). It would likely lead to a control board needing to be ordered and the ending bill would be around $800. But, that doing the software update sometimes worked. So, I agreed figuring that would at least let me know if it was a quick fix or something major. Dakota opened the doors of my refrigerator and took the temp. He then stated that my thermometer was working correctly and the refrigerator wasnt cooling. Then he took the bottom drawer out and said he could see ice. He then stated he was done and I owed him $95.68. When I asked why he wasnt running the software update he said he didnt need to. The refrigerator needed a fan, thermostat and control board and the bill would be $794.98  He literally did nothing but stand in my kitchen! Now that may seem fine. However, I made an apt with the manufacturer. A week later they ran a software update and replaced a new fresh food section fan. The total including the service call was ONLY $304.75 and was completed in under 30 min. So, clearly Dakota was going to charge me a ridiculous amount to fix more than was broken.
Response from Wright's Appliance Center
"What we quoted you for was the Control board, Fresh food fan, Heating element and bi metal thermostat. We have indeed had very bad luck with the software updates bricking the unit, requiring a new control board. The majority of the cost of the repair was in the control board. It seems from what you have listed that nothing was done to correct the ice build up that was happening. The refrigerator normally builds up frost over the course of just running. The defrost heater is what clears out that frost and prevents it from turning into ice. Once you have ice build up, the defrost drain line also needs to be cleared out. If you just correct the fan to restore cooling to the fresh food side you will get the same issue back again because nothing was done to fix the actual problem, just the symptoms the unit has. If all that was done was a software update and new fan you need to call GE back and get them to complete the repair. You will have this issue again in a few months at most."

Very professional. They will come out and give you a diagnosis for $80 for the DIYer who can't quite figure out the problem. I had Dakota check the level of the dishwasher while he was here. Very nice and COVID conscience. I will hire them again!
