Project: Hire a Handyman
We hired Xtra Handyman to clean our dryer vent as well as install cages over our other outdoor vents. Not only was his work very professional, but when he found seven baby birds, he took them out carefully to give to us to help. He was thorough, clean, and prepared for the job. We would use him again.

Came on time, but did not do diagnostics check to find the root cause of the Fridge not cooling. Paid high fee. He cleaned the fridge little bit upon request and went away, We ended up ordering a new fridge as he was not willing to find the root cause even next day. We called and told him the fridge is not cooling.
Response by Xtra Handyman Services, Inc.: Do not invest in trying to repair a TEN-YEAR-old refrigerator. Especially if the compressor is running hot while there is nothing wrong with its fan. We always ask all customers to read their "user manual" when they don't know anything about it such as adjusting the controls.

He wanted to repair something that was not broken. The pipes ended up being frozen in the pee-trap and he didn't check for that. He was very condescending. He said that he needed to replace a drain pump it would last for 5 years and I asked him if he would warranty it and he said he would give credit for future repairs. He did arrive on time. He promised to email a receipt and never did. He was more expensive for the service call than others and the service call charge did not go towards the repairs.
Response by Xtra Handyman Services, Inc.: We handled your emergency service call within 2hrs on a snow day If your washer is on the 2nd floor and it?s leaking water from the drain pump, yes we will try to replace that drain pump. Yes we did confirm a frozen drain P trap and assisted your plumber to give you peace of mind by logically explaining what happened. You forgot to mention that we repaired your washer overflow pan from leaking. We only use brand new factory authorized parts already under warranty by the manufacturer, each offering different warranty periods, we are not a retailer selling extended warranty periods or parts. The ?minimum of 5 year period? was reference to the new drain pump part IF we would replace it. We issue electronic receipts, check incoming ?spam/junk? incoming mail box and your internet provider security settings and you can always call us to request a hard copy if for some reason you did not get it. A ?service call? is to cover vehicle expense transportation charges and tech time needed to diagnose your appliance. You can always call a ?factory authorized? contractor for almost twice our service calls fees and 3 weeks or more wait period before they can get to your appliance.

The tech repaired our washer, placed and finished the sheet rock, installed an exterior door, screen door, some rubber sealing and gave us additional information about safety.

The service provider came out several hours after he said he was coming and was in a hurry to leave. He could not stop the loud noise coming from cleaning the dishwasher. He comment was to" live with it" He told us that part that would be required to make the noise go away, was not worth the repair. He look at the refrigerator which was about to die, and told us that our freeze was too crowed and we should remove some of the items. That was incorrect. Our microwave was broken. He said contact the manufacturer. He charge us 20.00 each for looking at the refrigerator and the microwave. I was very unhappy with his service.
Response by Xtra Handyman Services, Inc.: We do not make decisions for customers, we give them options based on cost of repairs/estimates/parts/evaluation of age of appliances and if customer asks ?what would you do as a technician and this is your appliance? then we give you an opinion based on your appliance over all price to repair vs replacement Do not overpack refrigerators, it blocks the essential of cool air Re circulation Microwaves (over the range or counter top type) are more cost effective to replace than to repair unless it?s repaired under the (normally) 1 year warranty by factory authorized technicians and average of 5,7,10 yr warranty period for the magnetron (what heats your food), see your user manual for details

The work they did is terrible! They overcharged and my railings around the deck look worse then when they started. They were 2 hrs late and I had to contact them to find out the delay. They left to get more supplies and were gone another 2 hrs. A job that should have taken 5-6 hrs, took them all day. I will never recommend them to anyone, very disappointed in my first encounter through HomeAdvisor!

Response by Xtra Handyman Services, Inc.: If you already have a gutter cleaning technician/company that charges you under $100 to clean your gutters, do call them back, this price is good. If they do not answer phone calls, leave them a msg, else if they do not return your phone calls/msgs that is possibly because they are too busy or the price above. And if they do come back, make sure they clean the entire gutter, not only the clogged downspouts, unless this is what the customer is asking for.
