I?ve often seen news stories about Black families receiving lower home appraisals from white appraisers, but I never imagined I would experience this myself. Last month, an appraiser named Scott from ZOTS APPRAISAL SERVICES, INC came to our home in Jersey. Our property is well maintained, fully gutted, and beautifully renovated in recent years. We live in a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home that was appraised at $677,000 earlier this year. However, Scott appraised our home at $627,000. What concerns me is that Scott appeared to overlook appropriate comparables. Instead, he pulled comps from homes that had never been updated, many with only 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that are nowhere near our home. These properties in no way reflect the value or condition of our home. Had we known that implicit bias might influence the process, we would have removed our family photos and possibly had our white friends present during the walkthrough.

Scott understood the urgency of the appraisal. He sent Brian to my house on the same day. Both were very professional and courteous. Brian took the time to go over the results of the appraisal with me and was very detailed. I was very impressed with the quality of their work.

When I spoken to him Heisenberg nice and mad me feel confident that he was qualified. I gave a score of 4 because they only performed a drive-appraisal and so if in the future we were to use their services I wanted to leave room to score up. Thanks so much.

kevin is thorough with his inspection,he is respectful of the cleanliness of our house ,he removed his shoes during the inspection w/c is very important to me.
