A technician (Bill) came to my house and did not have the part he needed. The total charge would be $329.00 and there was a 50% deposit (164.50) and that was charged to my credit card. I called them in November and spoke to Regina. She said the part would ship on December 10th. Still having not heard from back from them I call and spoke to Regina again. I told her I wanted a refund of my deposit. She said she would find out what had happened and told her I did not want the repair completed and a refund was all I wanted. A man (James) then got on the phone without identifying himself. I repeated my first and last name to him and asked for his name. James told me he would not give me his last name and that my repair had been completed! He then refused to refund my deposit and said he had had it with “YOU PEOPLE” and hung up on me.

They came out, and I paid them to buy a part. The part never came in. I wanted to get my money back. They only wanted to give me half of it. That I had to pay for them to come out, and I paid through Angie's List, and they had a pre-paid for them to do a service. I had to get my credit card to dispute them, and I had to send the Angie's List receipt to show them that I had bought the plan, and that they came out to give me an free estimate. I didn't have to pay them any additional money for them coming out. It was a mess. It took me about two months to file it with my credit card company, to get the money back. They said I should file something with the Better Business Bureau. The company was very deceptive with us, and only explaining that we could only get refunded half of what we paid for a part to have installed. I bought a plan. I paid you all before they even came out. Very deceptive company. It was my ice machine, and I needed it fixed before my family came during the Holiday's. They promised me that they would have it, and they never ordered the part. Around closer to the Holiday's, when are you coming. They gave me such and such, and I told them to cancel it give me back my money. I had to pay for the part before they could even install it, so they could order it and bring it to me. I told them to just cancel it and I will find another company to come install it. Then they refunded me half of what I purchased, I think the part may have been $100. They only gave me back $50. So, I disputed it. They told my credit card company that the only reason they gave me half, is because its for them come out and even look at my ice machine. I said, no that is not correct. I paid them through Angie's List to come out. First they gave me an $50 credit. It went back and forth, giving them the receipt from Angie's List showing what you just said, $59 for whatever. The receipt for the part. It was two separate transactions. The credit card company gave me back the $100, and file a complaint to Better Business Bureau, because that company was deceptive. They only refunded $50 for the service call, but I paid through you all. They came out the next day I purchased that. I needed to buy a part, a motor. I had to pay for the part. When the part came in, they would come out to install it. The part never came, and they never came back out. I said, cancel it, and I will get another company. They were quick to call me, and quick to come out. I had already paid them.

The service was excellent. The repair person showed up when they said, and they were very professional and courteous. The explained the problem to me in very easy to understand terms. I received a price quote prior to any work being completed, and there were no hidden costs or fees. I will recommend and use this place of business again in the future.

They were fine. They came out that same weekend. They were just a little pricey. The guy was on the phone the whole time he was here so it was kind of annoying, but other than that it was fine. I think I bought something on Angie's List to go towards the visit -- something like $25 for the service call. They got here and it was another $89-ish or something like that. Their responsiveness was fine. I guess I called during a weekday and they got out on that same weekend. They were punctual, I think they were here in the morning. They did not really do much so I can't really say anything about their quality.

The only thing I didn't understand was the "coupon" I bought for $59. The company deducted the $59 from my bill which means that it wasn't a coupon of any benefit, just a pre-payment of $59. The "coupon" stated That it was for: $59 for an appliance diagnostic call, complete diagnosis of problem, deal includes a $50 repair credit. What I apparently paid was a pre-payment of $59 that was applied to my bill. I think the company was great but I don't understand what benefit the "coupon" was. It actually turned out to be of no benefit to me at all. Will use this company again in the future but will avoid all coupons!
Response from A-Ability Appliance Repair
"Sir We apologize if u didn't understand how the coupon works ! The discount is incorporated into the labor for the job! The 59 is shown up front because that was actually paid. The 50 is taking off the labor automatically. We have asked angie's list 2 times to clarify this on the coupon! ITs still not changed to this day!"

My clothes dryer squeaked so loudly. The tech came smelling of tobacco and fixed it but he also charged us $10 more. When we realized the mistake we called the company and they said they would let the tech know about it. It's been 3 weeks which I believe is more than enough time to address the issue and we haven't heard from anyone. The company did not bother to follow up and made sure the issue was solved. They chose to ignore it and that tells me that they do not have good business ethics. I hope no one else experiences this. For me, I would not use this company nor recommended them.

"We apologize for any miscommunications. My techs do not smoke period. We did fix the appliance correctly the first time. When we found out the tech didn't return your 10 dollars! I sent a money order the next day. I confirmed it was received & cashed. We did address the issue with your husband. The mrs still wrote this review even after the refund . I read the reviews here on Angie's List and most were favorable so I thought I'd try them. There were a couple of recent not sp great reviews but i was hoping that was an aberration. Started out great. Phil (the tech) came out the same day and, we thought, he figured out the problem and ordered the needed part. It came in the next day and he came out to replace it. When making the repair he apparently figured out there was a second part needed and so he had to order that as well. He probably should have checked a little more thoroughly and figured out that there was additional parts needed. Here is where the wheels came off. I had to go to work so I left Phil with my wife to get things taken care of. When I got home I asked my wife when they would be back out to fix it. She said 'they didn't tell me, Phil said he would call you and let you know'. Phil never called. I was busy on Friday and just expected for them to call me or show up to do the repair. They never did. On Saturday I called them and Regina told me that he had to order the part and she thought it would take 1-3 days to get in but she wasn't sure but he had ordered it on Friday. Thanks for the heads up! She said Phil would call me later that day and confirm when the part would be in and when he would be able to do the repair, Phil never called. I called on Monday and after leaving a message Regina got back with me later that day. She told me that Phil had said that it would indeed take 3 days to get in. I asked to have Phil call me to see if we could somehow make the washer workable (since it was just a small clip that was missing) and it had not been working for about a week at this point and I have 3 children and a growing laundry hamper, she said she would have him call. You can probably guess the next part: Phil never called. She told me that the part should be in Tuesday and if it was late in the day it would either be Tuesday evening or first thing Wednesday morning. By Wednesday morning I hadn't heard anything and Wednesday afternoon I called them. No answer after calling several times. Regina had obviously recognized my phone number by this point and must have called the parts place and called me back after i made several calls to them and said that 'the part just came in (imagine that, after I kept calling to find out when the repair would be made) and that Phil would be out first thing the next morning between 8-8:30'. It was also very irritating that she told me previously that they would be out by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest and than she later said that 'I told you that the part would be. In Wednesday' and that is completely inaccurate from what she said. According to Phil, as long as it was ordered by 3pm that day it would be here by the 3rd day (Tuesday) from Kentucky. Anyway, Phil was going to be out on his first stop Thursday morning and it now changed to by 9:00am. I had to work but re-scheduled everything to be here Thursday morning and I wouldn't have to be at work until 10am. I waited until 9:40 or so and had not heard from them. I called Regina and told her I had to leave and she said Phil was coming directly here and he would call me and let me know when he would be here. Once again, Phil didn't call. At about 10:20, while I was at work, Phil called and said he was 22 minutes away. I couldn't leave work so I had to call my wife and she had to leave work to meet him here to get the repair done. It was completed at some point on Thursday morning and the washing machine is currently working. The moral of the story here, I guess, should be that 1-their follow up, and/or proactive approach is nonexistent to severely lacking. 2- Don't expect Phil to call. Frustratingly, he undoubtedly WON'T call. 3- if you like waiting for over a week to have your appliance repaired at a full price premium, with alternating stories on what you are told, this is your place! Now I'm sure they will reply to this with excuses or justifications for this situation but what I was told kept changing. I'm the customer and I need my washing machine to work, it's not like it was a shirt that the dry cleaner took an extra week to get back, we use it on a daily basis! I'm not looking for excuses, just to have my appliance fixed! Be warned that unless they have the part or can quickly get it that the repair will probably take some time, probably more than they estimate. Oh, and don't expect to get the awaited phone calls from Phil.
"We had no idea there was an issue at all! Phil communicated with your wife about the part! When u called me I had to verify when the part was ordered & the date it will arrive! We ordered it on Friday! 3 business days was Wen. We called you on Wen! You were very upset you couldn't have that day! I was already booked with customers. That wouldn't be fair to others. I put you in the first customer at 8:30 am It was fixed. We will use this as a learning tool to improve communication on phils part! Again sorry for any miscommunication. We honestly thought you were happy with the service. The Owner"

Started out as a pleasant experience, when we called for the appointment they were able to come out within 24 hours. The service man was able to assess our dryer and refrigerator. The dryer was simple, he had the part with him my husband helped him move the dryer, he pulled the old part off and was able to replace it with the new part in less than 5 minutes. We have a new refrigerator. its one year old, the factory warranty had just went out. The service man looked at the refrigerator he told us what was wrong and the price. He then told us he would need to order the parts, he gave us a quote for parts and repair. The cost was $237.00, which we paid in full at that time. He then came back to the house 2 weeks later to tell us he didn't feel comfortable doing the repair on our refrigerator because the refrigerator was so new he did not want to cause further damage. We appreciated his honesty, I asked him how we would get our money refunded, he informed us that we would need to contact their office. When calling the office the answering machine requests to send all questions through a text, which we did. We paid $237.00, but was told we would be refunded a portion of that $237.00, she said we would only get the money for the parts $128.00, but nothing for the labor that was not complete. The office said we could not get total amount back because ObamaCare.

He (Phil I think) quickly verified it was not the belt. Had me turn on the dryer and learned quickly it had an overheating problem. "You've got to clean your dryer ducts!" he said and immediately gave me the name of a service and a man's name. (see Lint Guardian)
It may have been my lucky day, but when I called A-Ability in the AM they immediately identified they had a guy in my area who would be there shortly. Less than a two hour wait. Then the referral to Lint Guardian gave me same day service as well. Now I understand what Phil means, when he says you must have been taking forever to dry. Can't believe how fast it dries now.
