"What this Member needs to understand is that not all companies perform the work that we do when installing a compressor and our pricing reflects this difference in work. The compressor is the most expensive component of the condensing unit and if not installed properly it can fail again in a short period of time. When we replace a compressor we flush the lines and the coils (if needed), we add acid neutralizer and install a new liquid line filter drier and suction line filter drier (if needed). We do this to ensure that if there is any acid in the lines due to an acid burn (which is the most common reason of compressor failures on our area), the new compressor is not contaminated with the acid because it will destroy the new compressor. We also install a contactor, capacitor, potential relay, time delay, compressor plug and start capacitor (if existing in the system), which are all of the electrical parts that allow the compressor to run, just in case there any electrical issues with them. This is a standard practice to do in the industry. This is done so that if there are any issues, those issues do not persist and cause damage to the new compressor over time. We pull a vacuum of the system down to 500 microns and remove all the of moisture as possible. This in itself can take up to 2 hours to do. This prevents acid buildup in refrigerant lines and compressor. We then add all new refrigerant to the system and adjust the refrigerant charge to get the right sub-cooling and superheat so that the system runs correctly and efficiently. This entire job will usually takes approximately 5 hours and sometimes longer and is very labor intensive. Obviously, this Member's compressor already failed once under it's original part warranty which should have never happened in the first place, as compressors should normally outlive the equipment itself. This means that either upon installation or during a coil clean no one pulled a long enough vacuum or they skipped the vacuum all together leaving moisture in the system which build up acid and destroyed the compressor. This is why we do the kind of work that we do because we do not want our clients to call us back with a compressor failure in the future. However, we cannot do this type of labor intensive work to make sure that a compressor lasts its intended lifetime and not charge for it. This member says that the other company took less than 3 hours to change their compressor at less than half the cost. We are sure that this Member got half of the job that he was supposed to get, but you get what you pay for and that was his choice. When it comes to pricing we aren't the cheapest company out there and we are not the most expensive company either. What we always are is honest and we are always going to continue to do the what's in the best interest for the customer, without cutting corners or taking short cuts with our work."
