At the beginning of the project, Phil impressed me with his responsiveness and willingness to travel a fair distance (at least a 2 hour drive) to do the estimate, as well as his knowledge and reasonable price. He seemed to care about the quality of the work and wanted to do everything right. To start with, I should have gotten everything in writing, which is my own fault, and I should have gotten his license and bonding information to verify him, but I had a relatively short period available to get the work done so another related project could be finished before the weather turned cold and wet (my pool is currently empty and I can't line it with the pool deck in the condition he left it, and it needs to be warm enough for the vinyl to be stretched into place). Anyway, he was available to start right away and so he came out with his crew and tore out my pool deck. It rained that day and he brought a mini bulldozer to help with that, which destroyed my lawn driving over it while it was wet, and also driving something that heavy next to an unfilled and unstable pool risked causing it to collapse, which thankfully didn't happen and I got them to stop using the bulldozer fairly quickly. They then proceeded to remove my driveway (he offered me a much better price for it than I had expected to take care of it at the same time and it was in really bad shape, so I went ahead and added that onto the project). After that, they leveled and prepped everything, pulled the pool walls into better shape (it was starting to bow inward which was concerning) and leveled everything to prep for the pour, and put down rebar. The following Monday, they poured everything and gave me instructions not to walk on it for 24 hours or drive on it for 7 days. They did NOT tell me I needed to be keeping it wet for the first day or two to prevent it from hardening too fast and cracking, and sure enough, there was cracking that's continuing to get worse still several weeks later. On top of that, some of the lines they laid down just don't make sense...the seams they add to the concrete are meant to be where the slab will crack as it will do so, to keep it controlled, but they formed corners in the seams right at the corners of my pool which left cracks nowhere to go but towards my pool, and the section of the deck that was crumbling enough to make me need to start this job in the first place is now already forming new cracks. On top of that, the lines of the pool deck are all over the place, visibly and very obviously not straight to the naked eye (which, from someone who was trying to convince me that my floors inside were not flat and would need to be fixed when I asked for a basic estimate for work in my kitchen, and proved it by showing me on his level that the bubble (which was still very much inside the lines) was just slightly off center, seems to not be fitting with the "doing it right" mindset he led me to believe he had), and for some reason they added seams on either side of my pool skimmer which looks simply awful on top of the uneven edge. Further, even though he was given instructions by the pool liner company on how to keep the pool's liner tract clear, they only half followed them: they taped the track up correctly, but they didn't remove the tape like they were supposed to after the pour or make sure that the track was clear, and in many spaces it's absolutely not reachable. Heck, the pool liners left the old liner in the pool to protect the floor and walls from getting debris and concrete on them which would need to be removed before a new liner is put down, to make it easy to clean it up, and they just pretty much destroyed what was left of that old liner and tossed it aside. The bottom of my pool is a horrific mess now that will need to be cleaned out, probably scrape bits of concrete off in places, to make sure that the new liner won't be destroyed by the debris they left behind. Oh, and they were shown how to put in the pool ladder and handrail: there are cups at the base that sink into the concrete and need to have the tops left clear to access the bolt so the rails can be removed and serviced, they were supposed to use the ladder and rail to put the cup into the concrete, then remove them, but instead they buried the rails down into the concrete, and deeply so. They're going to have to be broken out now and re-seated, but considering the other issues with the deck, those parts will probably just be redone anyway, and we'll need a new ladder and rail because they're covered in concrete now. Then there's the driveway. Which you can see how uneven it is just by looking at it. ****, you can FEEL how uneven it is just walking across it. It's really, really bad. And the front walkway, they added a bit of a ramp up to the door (the old entryway slab was a few inches below the threshold, this just makes them line up) started cracking the day after the pour and has been getting progressively worse since then. Phil came out to take a look at everything and agreed that this was not up to his standards and promised me that he would make it right, but that he needed a couple weeks because his mother had passed away and he was leaving to take care of things the next day. He said he would, on his own dime, remove and repour the parts of the deck that needed it, and that there was something he could do about the cracks and the uneven driveway, and he'd take care of it just please let him have these two weeks, and he'd call me if he could start earlier than that. To help put my mind at ease, he also agreed to email me his license and bond info, as well as a basic statement that he would fix the issues right away, and a more detailed plan when he had a chance, and asked me to text him my email address, which I did that night. That agreed on time for him to come back out was this Monday (3 days ago now) and I've not heard anything from him since he left my house that day almost 3 weeks ago. He never sent me any of the things he said he would, and while I tried to give him space because of his claim that he was dealing with his mother's estate, I did text a couple times during those two weeks just to ask after those emails he promised to send me, and again late last week to verify that he was going to be here on Monday. And again on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as well as attempting to call him only to go straight to voice mail, which was full. He's received all payments at this point and has not performed the services he's done satisfactorily and seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth as far as I can tell. Additionally, I paid him $5000 to seal the concrete (there is a lot of it), which he has not done either. He owes me either 1) to redo the parts that are problematic, to clean everything up, and finish the sealing process, or 2) a refund for the parts that he didn't do at all (sealing) and the amount it will cost me to hire another contractor, as well as pay to repair my pool if it collapses during the winter since it very likely won't be able to be lined until spring. This has been an incredibly stressful and aggravating project that has drained my bank account and I'll now need to take out a loan to pay someone else to fix it. If you still want to hire this company, take my advice: get and verify his license and bonding information, and book it through here so you have some guarantees in place to protect you should he do to you what he did to me.

Everything seemed well at first with good ideas being presented during initial meeting. We were given a verbal price and scope of work so I followed up with a email detailing what we discussed with price. They responded with an agreement to presented email. AAA Builders was able to start quickly. It was agreed to make payments in 3 parts. 1 up front and 2 at milestones. But 2 of the payments were requested early before scope of work was completed. I made the mistake of making final payment before completion. The fact is some of the agreed upon work was not completed. As well as there being major finish flaws in the concrete. Including a curb that is visibly uneven. The ground was not prepped well and there are many cracks in the concrete that started as soon as the concrete started curing. We met with Phil after the concrete was poured and he agreed that the work was not up to his standards and there were areas that were bad. He asked for time to collect money and he would replace sections of the concrete that were bad. We agreed on a date he would return to work on this and no one showed up. I called and was assured that some one would be there the next day to start. Yet again no one came and I had to keep contacting him to find out why. Phil offered to return some money for the incomplete and substandard work since it was not being corrected. But the money was much less then it would cost to have a diffrent contractor repair work. When I refused the money he offered again to come out and fix it but has since blocked my calls and I am getting no response from him. I do not recommend working with AAA Builders. I am trying to attach pictures but I am not seeing how to do this.
