He was very, very helpful. His helper was great and they finished the whole job in about 6 hours. He did the job for way less than half what we were quoted by another mason. He did a gorgeous job.

Our cottage was built in 1932 by a mason, and is made of mostly concrete. We experienced some water damage in our kitchen during the winter thaw which we suspected was caused by an ice dam and frozen water seeping through the wall shared with the patio. John inspected the house for source of a leak. He said it was hard to pinpoint the cause, but recommended we address the most likely culprit, while also sealing the more obvious cracks and openings in the wall. He and his team dug out a section of the brick patio next to the house and re-sealed the concrete foundation which was badly degrading beneath the patio--just as John had predicted. He sealed cracks in the exterior concrete wall, replaced soil under the patio with new water-resistant mixture, and graded the patio edge so the water would not pool next to the wall. In addition, our front brick stair was also crumbling badly and in need of repair or replacement. John gave us several options in different price ranges. He was sensitive to our budget and figured out a solution to repair the stairs--- saving us the cost of complete replacement. His team ground down and repainted the stairs. They now look like new. He also relaid a section of the walkway that had sunk and was creating a dangerous lip that people were tripping on. (Also looks brand new!) John supervised the work himself and had two men on site working for 2.5 days. They were skilled, courteous and cleaned up the area. (They also repaired a couple of loose shingles on our roof--- despite not working on our chimney at all. That was rather nice!) I would definitely hire John again, and probably will...since our old house is made of concrete. We also have a longer list of improvements we need to make, but can't afford to do just yet. John helped us prioritize the important jobs on our list, leaving the more cosmetic jobs for a later date.

When I called "John the Mason" for an estimate, he came over within half an hour. We had first called him last year to look into doing this work of waterproofing our basement, but hadn't gotten around to the work until this summer. His prices went up over the course of the year rather substantially, but he was willing to negotiate with us in various ways to drop the price down a bit. We felt he was the most qualified and clearest about the work he would do, and he assessed our foundation skillfully. John had his crew here the next day, and they worked steadily and well, even sparing our flower beds from their digging. One man on the team was happy to point out the construction of our house, and I learned quite a bit. We're pleased with the end result.

They crew arrived on time, did the job without making a mess. It took 2-3 days for 2-3 people. They were polite and professional.

John came out and gave an estimate quickly and started the work promptly, except for a delay caused by Keyspan. Good guy and fair price. Would have liked a more specific and detailed quote, but other than that, we were very satisfied.

THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB. THE WORK LOOKS GREAT...JOHN TOOK EXTRA TIME OUT TO WALK US THROUGH EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE DOING, AND WHAT MIGHT NEED TO BE DONE IN THE FUTURE BY OTHER VENDORS. HE WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT HE WAS PAID AND ASKED TO DO.

JOHN WAS GREAT ABOUT GETTING THE WORK DONE WITHIN MY TIME FRAME. HE ALWAYS SHOWED UP WITH 1/2 AN HOUR OF WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD (I CONSIDER THIS TO BE ON TIME), AND RETURNED MY CALLS PROMPTLY. I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK. THE WALLS LOOK MUCH BETTER NOW. ALTHOUGH I MIGHT HAVE SKIPPED THE ACID WASHING, I DON'T THINK IT MADE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE.

VERY RESPONSIVE AND PROMPT, WILLING TO GO EXTRA MILE, DID NOT NICKEL AND DIME ME TO DEATH (I.E., DID EXTRA THINGS WITHOUT CHARGE) TOOK THEIR TIME IN ORDER TO ENSURE QUALITY, I WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN. GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR FIRST TIME USE.
