"The project was slightly ahead of schedule with about a day’s worth of work to be completed before the drywall was to be installed. Communication had been detailed, abundant, pleasant, and cheerful. That evening without notice you fired us by text message. Despite multiple attempts on my part you refused to meet with us to resolve or clarify. You seem to have issues with basic concepts: Electrical devices go in AFTER the drywall is up and finished. The previous electrical circuit needed to de-energized to be moved. The 48” light you provided will not work with a 24” corner vanity. The bath fan you provided will not work as you want with the wiring that was already there and covered by the previous owner. Your reasoning that “it will make the children cry” or “the dog bark” just dumbfounded me. And on and on… Had you been able to continue to act normal for just one more day you would have had a basement to envy exactly on budget and ahead of schedule. But you couldn’t do that. You have currently received more that you have paid for. You fired us without any opportunity for resolution. Your key and garage code (again, the concept went entirely over your head) were returned to you by certified mail. I have a 5 star rating on Angie’s List with customers waiting in line for my services, many of which are referrals. I don’t need this nonsense."
"Ok, welcome to peoples [Member Information Removed] on Angie's List. I'm not wasting any more of my time with you. If any of this were true then why are all of my other ratings spectacular and yours is so bad? Why is anything similar to this not mentioned anywhere else? We just finished stage 1 of a new job (for a woman) and she couldn't be happier. Maybe I'll ask her for an interim review? We're headed to start a new job (for a woman) that is a repeat customer. She received quotes that were 20% less than mine, but she hired me anyway. Why? Because, in her words, she trusts me from past experience and knows the job will get done in a timely and professional manner. Why do I have so many customers (about half are female) that have me come back and do more projects with them? Ma'am, do you think, maybe, this could possibly be on you? Now I have real work to do for wonderful people and I'm done wasting time with you."
"Hey [Member Name Removed], Thanks for the kind & detailed review. We had a blast doing your basement and custom bar. Since I don't have endless tv commercials, telemarketers, office staff, sales people, supervisors, investors, lawyers on retention, etc I can make a fine living and charge much less. And by being personally involved in the job I get the opportunity and delight of getting to know customers like you and really fine-tune the end product to be better than expected, yet at no additional cost. Life is good, isn't it!"
"Thank you for the detailed review. However, there are items that I feel need clarification. We are a small company. I am personally on the jobsite with a tool belt on nearly 100% of the time. We do "A" work. Always. No exceptions. I can make such a bold statement because I started the business, I own it outright, and I run it as I personally choose. I do not ever choose to do "C" work. The drywall team did miss cutting out a light. It was obvious. They came back immediately and cut it out without issue. You then insisted that they cut a hole in the ceiling where you thought there was a vent. You were wrong. You were furious. It was patched and I repainted it at my expense. The tiny area by the water heater not being finished is typical and was taken into consideration with my quoted price. You claimed we broke the ceiling fan in your upstairs bedroom? We spent quite a bit of time tracing it down. It was a bad wire in the fan unit itself, probably from vibration. We fixed it at my expense. You were never taken out of first priority. Slow and steady? We typically finish jobs much faster than any of my competition. And we always do "A" work. Always."
