They did an excellent job

It didn't go well at all! One person came in to start the entire job and, to the best of our knowledge, without setting up a containment area or without using proper protective gear, began ripping things apart. Three hours after starting, they discovered that the vinyl was glued to the subfloor, so they would have to remove the subfloor down to the joists to get rid of the vinyl. They contacted us and said they could not finish the job, due to this issue and they packed up and left. They took away what they tore up, but otherwise left things in total disarray and we discovered some minor damage, after they left. We had to hire a second abatement company to come out and finish the job. The second company quickly showed us how things should be done. We paid Above and Beyond for the job, but they returned all money, with the exception of $150 that the owner asked us to allow for payment of the 3 hours time the one guy had spent on the job. We also spent funds for 2 nights at a hotel to allow for the abatement. We are uncertain if a proper permit was ever obtained, but the job was definitely not done to code, and so in the back of our minds there is the real probability of some amount of contamination to us and our pets, at least short term, before the second team came in to clean up. We have heard since that their have been other issues with this business and fines are being charged.

The work was completed on time. We would recommend this company.

It went great!

It went awesome! Derrick and his team arrived promptly at 8 as expected. They were kind, professional and are obviously incredibly hard working. They were careful with the underlying ceiling so we will not have to do too much to it. They provided me with a time estimate at the beginning of the work for how long it would take and kept me posted as the day went on. This was much appreciated as I was juggling my two small kids' schedules. I would definitely hire again!

Derrick and his office were very helpful in explaining the pricing and scheduling during my first call (as a heads up, there's a standard 10 day filing period for asbestos removal, I think because of the city?). As it turns out, my specific job was under their minimum charge (which was still less than I expected). I was happy to learn that the charge included everything (labor, disposal fees, etc.) except sales tax, and he was able to quote me the final price after tax before I booked the job (I've had another company give me a quote only to find out it didn't include fees and was significantly more expensive than I had expected). Billing was through QBO, Derrick and another worker arrived on time and were able to set up quickly and easily (I had removed all furniture, wall fixtures, and window treatments ahead of time except for a large fridge and large sofa). Very smooth and easy process, ceiling looks great and should be easy to get retextured. I absolutely would use Derrick again and plan on recommending him to anyone in need of asbestos removal.

So great. Derrrick was flexible, human and understanding while still being professional and affordable compared to others in the market. His price came in at 1/2 that of another quote I got, and he answered all of my (totally paranoid) questions about health, safety and precautions taken to protect our home and family from rogue asbestos fibers. He and his crew do a swipe of the space before and after and send it to labs to verify that everything is clean. My kitchen counter ended up with LESS asbestos on it after the removal than before... which just made me feel 100% comfortable with the processes they used. It's called above and beyond for a reason - and shockingly, that isn't about the price. Also Derrick is the nicest guy. What a great find. Thanks Angies list!
