They were reasonable in pricing. But, sometimes they were a bit slow in their work and they should try to keep up their appointments. But, overall they did a fairly good job. They could have done even better.

Under no circumstances should you use Accent Renovations or Marc Chavaree. Below is a high level overview of complaints and issues experienced with Accent Renovations.1.) Missed the established deadline by 7 weeks.2.) Under bid on initial bid and added surcharges later.3.) Downgraded materials. (Original contract stated Pre-engineered Hardwoods and later installed Laminate)4.) Quality of work was Horrible --- Almost every item had to be addressed at least 2 times5.) Contractor threatened us with delays. (Which ultimately he followed through on; as he was 7 weeks late on the completion date.)6.) Poor CommunicationBelow is detailed description and time line of what occurredI purchased a townhome that needed to be renovated thus, I financed my house through a 203k program which allows you to finance the renovation cost into the loan. I had lined up 2 contractors that met the 203K requirements but, the lender I was using required some additional insurance policies and paperwork outside of the 203k requirements that my 2 contractors did not have. Therefore, I asked for a recommendation of a contractor, as I needed to close on this property within 30 days.I was given Accent Renovations and I called Marc on Tuesday and asked if he could come out ASAP as I needed to move really quickly in order to close. Marc said he could come out the following day Wednesday. After he showed up to the property we walked through the property to go over the scope of work at which time I showed him 3 Pre-engineered hardwood samples from Home Depot, Lumber Liquidator and Lowes of flooring my wife and I had chosen. At the end of the meeting he told me he could have all the paperwork and the bid completed by Friday and that he thought this job could be completed in 1 month which was in line with what I had been previously told by other contractors. On Friday night I still had not heard anything from Marc, so I called him and he said he was overly optimistic about a process that typically takes 2 weeks. He then told me he would have all the paperwork completed by the following Friday. After he submitted his offer, I accepted it and we moved forward with the closing. Before we went to closing the lender requested a bid from Accent renovations on his letterhead to put in the file as the previous bid was in the 203k format. He provided this within a day or two and when I was reviewing it I saw that his contract stated Laminate not Pre-engineered hardwood. I immediately brought this to his attention and he told me he was going to install what I showed him in the house and that we were just calling it by different names. I then said I do not care as long as it looks like 1 of 3 samples I provided when you first came to the property. Unfortunately, not knowing anything about construction I went along with his explanation.I closed on the house Nov. 22 2013 and met with Marc at his office on Saturday Nov. 23 2013 at which time we went over the scope of work and immediately went to Lowes to pick out all the items that needed to be picked out by my wife and myself. While we were at his office he asked if we cared where he purchased the cabinets from and I said I had no preference from where you purchase the cabinets. The only preference my wife and I had was the color and the style of the door. The first thing we did when we got to Lowes was go over to the kitchen cabinet section, where Marc stated; he wanted us to get our cabinets from Lowes because they send him business and he wanted to return the favor. He then directed us to the brand of cabinets he wanted us to buy and asked us to select the color and door face.We proceeded to choose the lighting fixtures, fans, granite and etc. While we were in the store he directed us to the flooring section where we went over the flooring and the issue with Laminate vs. pre-engineered hardwood. He explained the pricing difference and said he priced it out for laminate and verified this by comparing his bid to the other contractor’s bids and noticed his bid was much cheaper than the others and after speaking with my wife she convinced me to just go with it. At this point we choose a laminate that was no longer available and Marc said he had a flooring company that could match it and I agreed to let him try. As we were leaving Lowes I wanted to re-confirm his timeline and he told me to give until Jan 10, 2014 a little over a month to account for the holidays which seemed reasonable. As the days turned into weeks, I continued to go by the house to check on the progression and believe it or not after 3 weeks the only thing that was done was the demolition which was done in 1 day on a Saturday or Sunday which I was at the house for. At this point I started calling Marc and his project Mgr pretty much on a daily basis asking what was going on and trying to confirm we were still on track to meet the Jan 10 deadline.Eventually on Thursday, Dec 19th 2013 the Project Mgr, Marc and my wife sat down for another meeting and Marc apologizes about the poor communication and says his Project Manager will run with the project from this point on. At this point Marc brings back the flooring sample from the company he was working with and the samples provided were not even in the same ballpark. So my wife and I panicked and went to Lowes the following day. We were not able to find anything we liked or that was close to what was originally picked but we found the closest product we could (High Gloss Jatoba. Item # 246003. ~1.69 sq foot). The following day we went to HomeDepot and found a laminate we actually loved Hawaiian Koa Cherry, 2.89sq ft. and we contacted the project mgr to let me know. Marc then sent an email with the remaining items and budgets that needed to be picked out by my wife and myself on Dec 22nd and included laminate from Lowes. So we emailed him to let him know we found a different floor that we liked more and that we told his project mgr the previously. At this point they said if I wanted this floor I had to pay an additional 1100. This really upset my wife and I considering we already compromised going from pre-engineered to laminate and now we are limited to 1.69 a sq foot which only leave roughly six options. Not only did he downgrade our materials but also severally limited our options for laminate flooring. He also let my wife know he spent too much money on the cabinets and was over budget almost 5k on the cabinets but he was going to absorb this additional overhead. Basically because he messed up on the cabinets he is trying juice up the margins on the rest of the house.I already agreed to pay an up-charge on the stairs of 375 and the tile for the master shower of 448.I then emailed Marc and told him my wife and I were disappointed and he threaten to drag this project out for 3 months.I finally backed down on 12.27.14 because I refused to pay this man or this company any additional money outside of the agreed upon contract. He went to Lowes to pick up the floor on Jan 3rd and they told him it was special order and it would be here the following week.On Jan 9th I get a call from Marc saying I can’t move in on the 1.10.14 as the house is not ready and I explained to him I had nowhere else to live and I was coming. When I moved in on the Jan 10th 2014 there were no floors downstairs at all just the raw slab/foundation the home was built on. The kitchen cabinets were in but had no countertop/ sink, appliances etc.. Out of 3 bathrooms I had 1 working toilet and the tile was put in that night and I was not able to walk on it for several hours. Basically all I had in this entire home was 1 toilet and a bedroom. The home stayed in this condition for additional 3 weeks which caused my pregnant wife and I to eat out every single meal 7 days a week for 3 weeks. At beginning of February the kitchen was complete and the floor was in however, in every door way you could see overcuts undercuts & mis-cuts on the floor which ultimately caused them to come back out and re-do a lot of the floors. They cracked several base boards and installed the quarter round so poorly the 203k consultant couldn’t believe the poor level of c

"This was the customers first home purchase and what they failed to include is that this was a 203K Department of Housing and Urban Development underwritten loan. It wasn't until after 3 failed attempts for the customer to find a General Contractor that met the rigorous and verified background requirements of the HUD and the Mortgage company the project got started a full 3 months after they got approved. Besides digging into our corporate finances, HUD and the Mortgage company requires that we layout the entire cost of the project. HUD is who tells us what is going in and how much is being spent and in turn we got inspected for workmanship, craftsmanship and material and code compliance regularly and passed every one without issue! For $42,000 the customer got a brand new kitchen, master, guest and powder room cabinets, Granite tops with undermount sinks, tile splash, new Master Shower, new flooring throughout the house, changed carpet stairs to solid Oak finished treads, the entire interior painted, changed out hardware on every door to different finish, new fence, moved HVAC unit, New lighting throughout including the addition of fans where there were none. When the customer made their selections they did not allow for any labor, profit, installation or overhead. They assumed the entire $42,000. was for them to spend on product. The customer is upset and rightfully so but they should be upset with HUD, the mortgage company and the restrictions they placed on their ability to spend money they just didn't have. Had they started off with a reputable and vetted GC from the start they would have been in the home on time. At the beginning they pleaded for us to take the project and against my better judgement relative to what was being done versus what they could spend I took the project because they were a young couple expecting a child. We will be posting wonderful before and after pictures of the project on our website by May 21. Please see what a deal they got for $42,000."

The plans were drawn for two bathroom renovations. Just prior to starting the renovation our (not planned) third bath shower started leaking through the bedroom ceiling below. Contacting Marc Chavaree of our problem he assigned our project manager to the task, arriving promptly to access the situation. In short order they had the shower completely gutted and installed a new shower pan, wall with tile, tile floor, and repair of ceiling in bedroom below. This untimely event turned out to be an awesome top notch job that was accomplished in approximately two weeks. Immediately following the other two bathrooms were completely gutted. The first bathroom had new tub and surround, toilet, vent fan, vanity with granite top, and tile floor. The second bathroom had new walls installed in tub area with tile from tub to ceiling, new tile floor with tile extending up wall four feet throughout the bath, and new tub and toilet. A custom wall cabinet was made and a vanity with granite top was installed. The foyer area outside of the bath also had a makeover with the doorways. The crew was very professional, courteous, and always kept area cleaned up. The tile installers were very professional and gladly asked our advice on tile pattern layout. The carpenter, Daniel, is a master craftsman, he made the difference when work was seemingly difficult and made it look easy, he is very attentive to details. We did have a slight issue with the project manager though, we felt he wasn't communicating well with us or the crew on certain details. Once we addressed it with Marc Chavaree, the issue was quickly resolved to our satisfaction. Overall we are very happy with the transformation of our bathrooms, in essence it makes us feel as though we are in a 5-star hotel. We appreciate the high standards of service that Accent Renovations provided and would recommend Accent Renovations to others and we would use them again.
"Thank you for this review of your projects. The chronology the steps and honesty is beyond any necessary rebuttal. This customer took the time to write in detail their experience with Accent Renovations to include even the areas we could have done better in. Being a Design/Build company allowed this customer to make one phone call for every aspect of the project This is what makes us a better company."

He told us the boards would probably lay down after a few months and they did! We were saved a lot of money by his knowledge and honesty. Years ago Accent put our wood floors in and refinished some floors that were already there. All the work has held up very well even in high traffic areas.
"[member name removed]: Thank you for the kind words. To be clear to anyone that might read this, not all hardwoods respond this way when they are exposed to water. This could have easily turned into a nightmare but good fortune was with them. I'm glad the other floors are doing well! Marc"

Our sunroom was, in every respect, completed above and beyond our highest expectations. Dan, the carpenter, was extremely talented and made suggestions that improved our thinking on various aspects of the project as he went along. Omar was truly a perfectionist at his job of drywalling and flooring. If there was an imperfection, Omar immediately relined the area and made the appropriate corrections. Carlos and his assistant finished the job with a perfect paint job. Having never met any of these gentlemen prior to working on our sunroom, I was 100 per cent dependent on their ability, honesty and professionalism. Not once did they ever let me down, but often they made suggestions that improved the project without adding additional cost. Both my wife and I were impressed at how each person took a person interest in the project as if it was being done in their own homes.
Jay, the company representative, was the perfect link between the job and company. He came often to the job site and always informed us in person, via e-mail or a telephone call if there was a new person coming on the job, an unforeseen delay (usually because of inspectors) or material delivery. Jay's explanation of why something was being done a certain way, always made sense and was spelled out so we clearly understood why a procedure would benefit us and add value to the project.
Even though I was not given the option of assigning an A+ for various aspects of this project, I would have done so if given the opportunity. In fact, we have already discussed having the company do another project for us next year.
Again, this is an honest review. I never met anyone at the company prior to contacting them about the sunroom.
Dr. John Ellison
I had a good experience. No complaints. The cost was too high and it took them a while to respond.

"The [member name removed] kitchen is gorgeous already but needed an update. They wanted to move a closet add an oven move and enlarge an island change the flooring add a "bar" with fridge, and ice maker and and make a columned pass through smaller. We met their expectations exactly and presented 3D drawings. Our initial visit lasted over 2 and a half hours the drawings took 8 hours to complete and the visit to present the drawings was 1 and half hours. [member name removed] The were gracious members. Thank you!"

It went okay. They came in like $10,000 to $15,000 because it was like a major redo. I just have them to come in and tell us what the design would be.

They did an excellent job but it was not without issues. The quality of the workers that were sent to the job site was excellent. The wallpaper removal was short, sweet and flawless. The tile installation, which took much longer than I expected due to the complexity of my choice of design and the professionalism of the installers is outstanding. The carpenter who did the finish work was wonderful. He made those doorways look fabulous and was meticulous with everything he worked on. I would invite these workers back into my house to do work any time. Communication was an issue that reared it's ugly little head time and time again. When we initially began the project, we worked with Marc Chavaree, the owner. He then turned the project over to a project manager and that is when we began to have issues. The project manager did not communicate well with us or with the trades, therefore, they could not communicate well with us either. Although, we tried to address this issue with him early on, it really did not improve. During the project, there was an issue with the quality of the cabinetry not being what we were led to believe we would receive. Once we addressed it with Marc, the issue was quickly resolved to our satisfaction. Bottom line, I am extremely happy with the finished product. At project completion, we sat down with Marc and voiced our concerns. He listened, sometimes defending, other times agreeing and we had a good discussion. I know for a fact that he has made changes to his business model as a result of our ( and I'm sure other) feedback. I would use Accent Renovations again and I would recommend them to others.

"The honesty of this review is refreshing and accurate. A project of this magnitude which included dropping the shower floor to create a curbless shower is always prone to challenges. [member name removed] and [member name removed]were gracious and a delight to work with."

Mr. Cheveree spent a lot of time at our home and measured the kitchen and sketched the kitchen. He listened to our ideas. Unfortunately, he didn't get the plans to us as quickly as we would like. But he has since produced them and provided a range of costs for the improvements we want to make to our kitchen. He also apologized for the delays and has since been very responsive.
"The Customer was a great client and was not interested in a kitchen or bath remodel. He wanted a quote on flooring and counter tops. I measured his counter tops and floor let him know that we wouldn't be back to him for a few weeks. We are producing his plans in the order of which he was seen and will send them a long by Wednesday 1/30 for his review."

The project couldn't have gone smoother. Marc Chavaree, the owner of Accent Renovations, was fantastic to work with. He was happy to answer all my questions - and I had lots of questions - and was very patient when addressing my concerns. Mark helped with the design of the bathroom and even with the selection of the tile and countertop. Marc gave me a fixed price for my remodel prior to my hiring him and there were no additional, surprise (!) charges after they started. Accent Renovations is a small company which was exactly what I was looking for - I wanted to feel that the company I hired really cared about my job and Accent Renovations did. I couldn't be happier with my new bathroom or how I was treated by Marc and his crew.
