We had to go through the energy company, we had to pay $100 to get an energy audit, and we had them come out. The quality of the work that they did was good as far as I can tell. They didn't leave a mess or anything. Contacting them was a little more difficult than I would like. I kept calling them to see if they had my estimate. It took about 5 phone calls to get my estimate and schedule a time. The guy who did the estimate was a problem. I tell people to call PEPCO and get a company off of there, because that is how we did it.They were very good. I like the crew that came out.

They did a good job. The price was good, and the workmanship was good. They could have (inaudible 06:52-06:56) a little better. We were satisfied, and I would use them again.

Good stuff:
The crew who did the work was polite and professional. They worked hard and got the job done without much disruption. My home does seem more climatologically comfortable since the work was done. Also, the person who conducted the energy audit seemed thorough and did a good job of explaining what he was doing.
Bad stuff: 1)I left my contact info via chat box on website. Nobody called me. I had to call again to get an appointment and the calltaker acted as though she did not know what I was talking about. To this day, I have no idea what happened to the contact info I provided in the chat box; 2)After energy audit, I had to call the company to find out what their estimate was; 3)After I signed the work agreement, I had to call the company because no one called me about scheduling the work; 4)Today is the 7th day since the work was completed. No one has called me about performing the test out which is required in order to get rebate. The day the service was done (Thursday), I spoke with someone who said I would be contacted the next day (Friday) about scheduling the test out. I did not hear anything, so I called the company on Monday and I was advised that the caller would email the audit company so they could contact me to schedule an appointment. As of this writing (Wednesday), I still have not heard anything.
In summary, if my experience were limited to the installation of services, this would be a boastful rating. But the serial and ongoing missteps committed by the support staff, far outweigh anything positive I have to say about this company. I would not use them again. Nor would I recommend their services.
We were unaware of any problems with their work until November 20, 2012, when we were considering putting a new roof on the house. We asked a roofer to look up in the attic and he found mold across the interior beams. In December, the company performing our mold remediation found the soffits clogged with blown in insulation and batts of insulation blocking ventilation through the gable vents. The owner of the company, who also performed the remediation work, informed us that the absence of ventilation in the attic as a result of insulation blocking the soffits and the gable vents was the cause of the mold. In January of 2013, I asked Acccurate to reimburse us for the $23,200 cost to remediate the mold problem and to install new insulation. Accurate referred the claim to its insurer which, six months later, denied the claim on the grounds that its contract with Accurate contained a mold exclusion. I then asked Accurate to pay the claim. Accurate denied the claim on August 23, 2013, and has failed to respond to subsequent requests to pay for my losses.
I am only asking Accurate to pay for the shoddy work of its employees that has cost me a lot of money. We had no mold in the attic in the 29 years we owned the house before Accurate added new insulation; no one was up in the attic before the roofer (it is only 3 feet at the highest point and was filled with insulation); and the mold remediator says it was caused by the lack of ventilation as a result of the vents being blocked with insulation. Accurate's employees caused the mold, either by blocking off all ventilation or by failing to inform us that such a blockage would occur if they installed the insulation. It is an open and shut case but Accurate continues to refuse to pay for the losses its employees caused. Thus, I recommend strongly that you not use them.
Great! I dealt with Dave Lawson. He came to my home to do the initial inspection and scheduling of subsequent work, then e mailed me the contract & price quotes.
When another issue developed, he came out again, re-evaluated, and arranged for the additional required work to be completed (along w/ the original work scheduled).
At the last minute I needed to change the date for the job (scheduling conflict). They were accomodating & pleasant.
Work was done by a knowledgeable, professional crew of men.
Energy Audit was done after.
Very pleased w/ the thoroughness of the job, the personnel and the quality of work. No "salesman" type pressure or tactics.
The price was on a par w/ other estimates I received.

Fantastic work! Fast, easy and professional. These guys know what they are doing. We also used Accurate Insulation last year when we bought the house, and they provided whole-house insulation to add to the original 1965 builder insulation. They were able to provide advice on what would be too much insulation and could cause poor indoor air quality. Would use them again anytime.
On the contractual end Home Depot representatives NEVER showed up on time, usually hours late. They also rarely returned phone calls once the contract was initiated. They were great at selling their services however ... once they were here. Delivering on their promises fell way short.
Upon the first rain after installation two major leaks appeared in the house. One was very gutter related, the other was a coincidental ? mystery.
About 1/3 of the system had to be replaced a second time due to the improper installation of shortened gutter runs.
End caps and corners were not a matched contour to the gutters and were crimped to point of being mangled. Then heavily caulked to fill the gaps.
Damaged facia was not replaced and had to be done by others after the installation.
Several dozen hanger screws were not set. I had to request they be set.
The lead protection nor the clean up was not done despite being paid for. I am promised a refund but have yet to see it.
The debris clean up was haphazard ... we personally picked up shards, screws, hangers and other trash.
In order to acheive the very minimal satisfaction on this project it took three months of phone calls and unanswered letters to Home Depot. While Home Depot promised to fulfill the contract to my satisfaction, Accurate Insualation was very dismissive of my concerns and complaints about the job. They tried to avoid correcting almost everything. Although I have finally accepted this job I am extremely unhappy with the outcome and will never use Home Depot or Accurate Insulation LLC for future home projects.
Home Depot is receiving this same review regarding this project.
From the start, we got a very prompt and profession response from Accurate (Dave Law). He came by and
proposed several options, emailed detailed proposals quickly. Schedule an install quickly. Crew were punctual
and had all work done in ~3 hours. Great work, cleaned up nicely, very professional.
Well done.
Based on the type of job, a great many companies did not want to do it since it was a small job and involved installing cotton insulation. I needed cotton primarily for sound reduction but also for the non-allergic properties since many members of the household are allergy prone. I also was seriously concerned about contaminating the house with rock wool dust. I spoke with Bob Burgess on the phone and he was very professional and knowledgeable about insulation. He alerted me to tax credits available if I performed an energy audit, and assured me that I would receive a quality experience. The energy audit was fine and the problems only arose when the work was performed. On the day of the work two gentlemen arrived, however I could tell they really did not understand my English at all and were only concerned about me paying the bill. I called the main office accountant and paid the bill before the work was completed. I heard the men working in the attic and the entry space located in my bedroom. I went to see what they were up to and found the two workers shoving rock wool bats directly from the attic opening onto my bedroom floor and wrapping it up in plastic in little bundles. Fine dust was filling the room and making it's way all over my house. I asked them what the h*** they were doing and they didn't understand me. I immediately called Mr. Burgess to inform him of the situation and he said they shouldn't be doing that and said their supervisor would get in touch with them. In the meantime I proceeded to seal off the rest of my house with plastic sheeting. I then went in the bedroom and they had made a sort of plastic chute in the closet where they were shoving it down the attic opening. Of course this was just as bad and an enormous amount of rock wool dust and debris was scattered about. At this point I was very angry so I sent pictures to the company. They didn't respond. The workers had then started vacuuming the attic space. After they finished I went up to inspect the work and it looked pretty clean and at least from standing in the middle it seemed like it was air sealed. I left to allow them to install the bats. I returned midway to find they had not followed my instructions. Since the joists were 8 in. I had two sizes of cotton bats one 8 inch the other 3.5 inch. They were to install the 8 in. batts in between the joists and then install the 3.5 inch batts the other direction such that the grain was perpendicular. They were installing both the same way. I had explicitly told them what to do, so I chalk this up to either not understanding or not caring. They barely even managed to remove the trash and only tried a very rudimentary vacuuming. My pregnant wife was on the way home from work so I called some cleaning companies in the area and none could make it that day. It took us 3 hrs to dismantle the rooms affected, wipe them all down with soap and water and clean everything. We are still finding rock wool dust in and on objects. The company contacted me and asked me if I wanted someone to clean the place the next day, but of course we had to sleep there and couldn't wait. Based on the nature of my experience, I further inspected the attic to determine what work was actually performed. While near the attic opening there was evidence of air sealing, upon further inspection the attic floor sides were not sealed. The rafter vents were not properly installed. Not all of the rock wool material was removed and the material near the eaves was just shoved further in. All of these failures are a breach of contract. Also I found the crew's vacuum cleaner attachment under my bed.
What kind of worker would decide that shoving 80 years old batts of rock wool directly through the ceiling hatch onto my bedroom floor is okay? Any reasonable person would enter the attic, close the attic, bag all the material and then carefully remove sealed bags from the attic. What kind of company is non-responsive to customer complaints and does not come out to inspect the shoddy work done by their employees? I'm at a loss to understand how such behavior could occur. Before writing this review I gave them an opportunity to take action but they didn't. I originally was going to do the job myself, but decided to use a contractor because I thought a pro would be careful not to contaminate my home with rock wool dust. These fools had no clue about anything and a total disregard for my home. It makes me sick and I spent $900. And Angie's list.....well I might as well use the yellow pages. These people were supposedly highly rated. These are the typical contractors that take your hard earned money and hire unskilled laborers of questionable immigration status to do the skilled labor and pay them nothing so they can maximize their profits. I'm over contractors. I'm doing everything myself from now on, even if I have to learn how to mold bricks by hand.

It cost us about $12,000 but then we got a refund and tax rebate. I think on the whole it was a positive experience. We had to have them come back and redo the basement because they hired some people who never knew what they were doing. They covered some things which shouldn’t have been covered and so that was pretty bad. They came and looked at it and the guy who was in charge of the insulation came and said that it was not going to stand and the best guy they had came out and tore out the bad stuff and completely redid a third of the basement to our satisfaction. They did a good job ultimately but it was just a drag and I had to call and tell them it was not right. I went with another company who arranged for these guys to come out and so I didn’t price shop. We are very happy with an insulated house. It is a lot quieter and it was definitely worth doing. The big ticket was that we decided to inject foam into the walls. We have an old balloon frame house and we paid $7500 for that and you could do it for less money but we chose an expensive one. Once they came back and fixed it the quality was good and I was happy with it. We wouldn’t use them again because we did call them to do a ventilation job and they wanted $3000 to do ventilation up there and we were kind of concerned that they never mentioned it when they were doing the insulation. I feel that if I weren’t there to watch out and see what they were doing they would have left the basement in the way I didn’t like it. I had to call them and tell them that I didn’t like and it was not appropriate and then they came right over and fixed it. I feel that was not my job. I felt that my job was to hire somebody and their job was to do it right.
Response from Accurate Insulation
"Accurate served as a subcontractor on this job. We were only responsible for the insulation portion, not the ventilation. Our employees are all trained well, most are DOE certified weatherization mechanics, and I believe the customer may be confusing our employees with the Contractor's. As a BPI Accredited company, we are committed to always doing a quality job. When a problem occurs, we will respond immediately."

The contractor was suggested by the provider of a home energy audit. We did not shop around as we wanted the auditor to coordinate submission to the Maryland Energy Administration for allowable state and utility rebates.

We scaled back the recommended work a bit as there were a couple of areas where we thought the payback did not warrant the increased expenditure and then finalized the contract which was coordinated through the auditor.

As stated above, Accurate Insulation was prompt, courteous, and worked cleanly. We would use them again.

Accurate Insulation did work as a sub-contractor to TerraLogos, so it’s difficult to comment on their direct price. The crew was on time, knowledgeable and neat. I have a rancher with a 3,800 square foot large attic. The house was built in 1963, so it had minimal insulation. We also have over 100 recessed lights-- a major source of air leakage. Each of those needed to be enclosed and sealed. The crew of 6 men spent 11 hours completing the job. The true test will be my electric and oil bill !

The sales person was knowledgeable, and didn't try to push the most expensive options. He made practical recommendations that balanced cost with the benefits. The crew that came to do the work was professional, on-time, and did a good job. What really impressed me was when 2 weeks after the initial work, a supervisor called to say that he wasn't sure if they had completed a portion of the work they had promised, and sent out two experienced crew members to check. They reviewed the work of the original crew, found a few minor errors and fixed them. They even had the blower truck come back so the insulation they disturbed would look perfect. A stand-up company that is serious about doing a good job. An exceptional thing for a service that it is difficult to impossible for the consumer to know if the contractor really did what they were supposed to.

The crew is excellent. They work hard and get the job done. I hired this company because I they are one of the few that blow cellulose insulation and they also work as a subcontractor for a "high end" energy efficiency consultant (Terralogos) in Baltimore. The salesman Dave Law was great - fairly responsive to questions and problems. The back office and scheduling of the job -- total disaster. The crew was supposed to arrive in the am -- crew didn't show up until 3pm. Also, turns out that the job needed two crews -- one for foam insulation and one for cellulose. The cellulose crew never arrived and at 5:30 I got a call from the office saying they would come the next morning. They did. Payment -- There was a problem with the bill -- and the back office wouldn't let the men leave my house until the amount was paid. Ultimately, they over charged me until the salesmen told the back office that they were wrong. That said, I was told they couldn't process a credit against my credit card -- instead I would be mailed a check for the over charged amount. I am writing this before knowing whether the check is really "in the mail." But I have never heard of a Company not being able to process a credit. Would I hire this company again? Probably but beware that you will have to deal with the office not really being able to schedule crews, answer questions or even properly bill. The men did work hard and seem "afraid" of the back office.

This company is very disorganized. The job was supposed to take one day but took two. They didn't send the right trucks and the workers who showed up appeared to have been given improper instructions from the central office. In addition, they were unable to perform a job included in the bid (drill and plug loose insulation into bedroom ceiling). They knocked $400 off the price, and everybody was very polite, and the workers who showed up did a good job once they figured out what they were supposed to do. I had to stay home an extra day from work and supervise everybody closely to ensure that they actually did what they were supposed to do. Still, this job should have gone much more smoothly than it did.

My husband is a big energy conservationist so it was imperative that we had this insulation done properly. It meant using the Styrofoam in some areas where most of the contractors tack on sheets instead. They didn't mind one bit working with us and they did this harder type of installation, actually making it look easy. I was impressed with their work and the detail they took in making sure everything was done right. I highly recommend them, and we will always use them in the future, when and if necessary.
